The possible reasons for unexpected, frequent BSOD of 5672 :(

Hi there,

I've got this issue with my precious Acer Aspire 5672 (C2D1.66/2GB/120GB/ATIx1400/dvdrw) ...
I've been using it for about 3 months now and didn't have any special problems so far ... I did send it like 3 times to the 'reapair facility' in Texas becouse of some annoying buzzing from the touchpad - but it's not about that.
I've been having some crashes (BSOD) of the system lately. I had some of them from the start, but back then it's been maybe once a week or once every two weeks, so I figured that's just normal Win OS computer's behaviour
But this time it's getting more and more annoying! I get a BSOD every two days at least. I'm running a copy of Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and all the latest updates.
I never get a crash if I play games (sic!). I often get them while watching DVD movies, or just iddling in Windows! The one I got 5 minutes ago, that has provoked me to complain about on this forum, occured while reading a slidshow in Powerpoint for classes tommorow. So the crashed don't really occure while stressing the hardware ... I'd even say it's opposite. It's when I do nothing I usually get one ... What might be the reason for having these BSODs?
The truth is that I do stress the machine in this way that I use it many hours a day (like 8-14) for several weeks now, but is this a good reason for breaking down like that?
I don't what should I do right now ... Might it be any kind of extra software that I'm running? Like AVG AntiVirus, Skype, WinMessenger, AcerCamera software, Daemon Tools, ATI Control Center, Realtek HD Audio, Acer ePower Management, Kerio 2.1.5, Synaptics Touchpad software .... or anything like that?

I guess it's more of a hardware issue, but it's worth asking first before sending it to acer to fix it ...

Most likely your graphics driver, or at least the video playback/imaging settings
I am surprised it doesnt crash in games since these generally test a machine to its limits, especially if they are of the 3d FPS i.e. Half Life2 etc.

since the machine has been away and dissassembled (sic) it might be prudent to check that the memory is securely fitted, that is if you are ok removing the cover.
any cables too might not be tight, and as things heat up/cool down disconnections causing hardware failures may occur

in fact a loose cable is my best bet, probably from the hard disk or cd drive

What's the message that appears in the BSOD?
The blue screen used to appear when I shut down the notebook. Very annoying.

I solved that formatting the notebook and installing the latest updates available from Acer's website.
Won't you try that? I know it's very bad to have to do that, but.......
