Hmm....why must Dell be so ignorant, they downgrade a VAST amount of things after making a major mistake with the first system. Could people give some advice on things to argue with Dell about tonight? My current 9300 specs are in sig.
Wow... that IS insulting.
call them up, and while explaining, ask them to let you email this info to them so they can compare it for themselves and realise what happened.

do you have next business day warranty? replacement should have taken max 15 days. how long has it taken?
I would call them up and complain. Particularly, it appears they are trying to pawn the x1400 off on you, which is a clear downgrade even from your original 9300 GPU.
Definetly worth making a deal about the x1400 is an inferior card compared to the 6800go.

Oh yeah... Tell me about it... My 9300's replacement arrived initially with one of those garbage heaps, and I'm glad I got Dell to get me the 7900... One thing that may or may not be a big deal to people regarding the X1400 is it's LCD expansion. It's TERRIBLE!!! If you use anything but the native resolution of the LCD (in my case, 1920x1200), it looks like you're looking at a computer screen made of Legos. Seriously. It's horrible. I got the 7900 in there, and it's beautiful now .

Also, the battery in the "new" replacement is a 6-cell, versus 9-cell in the "original" (not sure about your 9300)

The LCD in the "new" replacement is a Samsung, and for some reason is priced less than the "original" replacement's LG screen... Also, the "original" replacement seems to have a WUXGA (UltraSharp + TrueLife), versus the "new" replacement's WXGA+ "Standard" screen...

Finally, the memory in the "new" replacement is 533MHz, versus 667MHz in the "original" replacement... IMO, not a big deal, with the 533's lower memory latencies.

I would definitely bring up all of those points to them, and compare the new replacement's specs to your original 9300. If you complain enough, which you have every right to, they will do something for you .
Good luck man it was hell complaining about my replacement system, but I got them to send me another replacement system but it's a mystery what that will be -_- hopefully it won't be a downgrade again.

They authorized replacement on November 17th....Now the new system is JUST being put into production on December 5th
post #9 of 42
One thing you should all keep in mind if when dell has to reissue a replacement it really doesnt matter what you say originally in the sheet as long as the system your getting meets or exceeds the specification of the original system thats all that really matters.

I do understand, however It especially gets me angry that recently people around the forums have been getting significant upgrades in their systems, and they are giving me basically the same exact computer with some extra bells and whistles, yes its great, but I would like to be treated as well as other people. Plus, now the techs are simply promising that the 2 systems are exactly the same that i posted above.
yeah, I would just tell them that this replacement you're getting is NOT what you were promised. Often times the people putting in the replacement orders don't know anything about computers other than how to operate them. You can't always blame people for their ignorance.

Eh, like I said... Complain... But like DELL-Machina has said, it really depends on what Dell has in stock. My replacement was originally slated to be a refurbished 9300, with the same specs as what my original one was. I received the 9400 as a complete surprise.

You can make an issue about the battery (if your 9300 had a 9-cell) and the videocard (the X1400 sucks ass compared to the 6800). Those are both valid points, and Dell shouldn't have a problem with those...

Well, this time I'm getting a call from the Dell escalation team. I do personally understand the rules of dell, however, I just wish some of Dell's promises were not empty as hell. The worst part is, the tech just went and called as fast as possible to the depot for them to shove that laptop out the door, because it just went from in production to shipped in less than 15 minutes. But so far, I got a promise that this guy will regret, he now said if they include a downgraded part in the new order, they will replace the whole system again.

I know everyone says stuff like this in posts, but could you guys give me a couple back ups to fight for a 7900GS, which will cause the system replacement?
grrr this worries me. Ive been fighting with Dell over my m1710 for WEEKs now. Ultimately they lost my laptop and said they wil be shipping me a "similar" or "better" laptop. There is no way to know what I am getting until it actually gets here too.

Dell support thus far has been outrageous. Ive been hung up on for 4 weeks, told one thing and then another thing completely on a daily basis. All to lose the laptop completely. Im waiting to see how this Resolution Specialist takes care of me to put in my final opinion on the matter but so far nothing good has come of this.

I hope you get a good one Tekki. That way, at least one of us would be happy
post #16 of 42
I bought my laptop right off this site from a legit seller. The service tags checked out and everything, the transaction smoothly. When I transferred my warranty online I called Dell up to make sure everything was cleared and their were no discrepancies. The Dell customer care rep reassured me that the laptop was in order and if any problems came up, I can use my complete care coverage to take care of it.

So about 3-4 weeks later I get a number of sticky key problems which was locking up my keyboard occasionally. (I think one of my stuck media buttons was causing this) I call to get the keyboard and media buttons fixed and the tech guy puts me on hold. He comes back and says I need to call customer care and get a discrepancy cleared before they can work on my laptop. I ask him to tell me what the discrepancy error is and he says I have to call customer care and hangs up on me.

I spent the rest of the night with customer care trying to clear a discrepancy that they refuse to describe to me. One person even hung up on me. Finally they say "We will cal you within 48 hrs to clear this up" This was on a Friday. Monday morning I get no calls so I call them up and they basically say the same thing.

In the meantime I find out that if my keyboard gets locked up all I have to do is mess around with the media buttons to get it to unlock the laptop. 2 days later I still dont get a call back. I decide it isnt worth the effort to fight with them since I can live around messing with the media buttons occasionally.

2-3 weeks later I get a memory parity error. My laptop refuses to even boot to windows at all. A reinstall/format does nothing but make things worse. This time I call the XPS line. He says "looks like we need to replace your memory but you have a discrepancy on your account" I explain to him that I have been on the phone with customer care MULTIPLE times and they refuse to call me back when they say they will. So he puts me on hold and comes back, telling me "We can go ahead ad fix it."

They schedule a pickup via DHL the next day and he orders some memory for it. The next day DHL picks up the laptop (The guy makes me uncomfortable when he comments how badass my laptop looks) At work the following day I get a call. "Is this David? I have some memory for you" Kinda lost I tell him I sent it off to get repaired. He replies "Ill make a note: Customer sent to depot" The laptop was picked up on Nov 21st.

One week later I call to see what the status is on my laptop. I call the XPS line and he says "I see where it went to Memphis, but I cant get past this screen, there is a discrepancy on the laptop account." I explain to him that this was cleared up and they picked up my laptop for repair so this makes no sense. He puts me on hold then comes back and tells me to call customer care.

::SIGH:: So I call them up. Same hoops but this time they say some oddball shit that my account under some strange name Ive never heard of is fraudulent. I explain how that can make no sense. I bought this off MotoGP and the tags were under his name. The account was transferred under my name. This new name doesnt make sense at all. After over a hour of talking to her she puts me on hold twice for 15min+ Finally she comes on, apologizes for being on hold for so long, says she is logging the call, then hangs up on me.

I had to go to class so I didnt have time to fight anymore. The next day I call the XPS number and explain to them all of what has happened. He tells me he will email a Resolution specialist and escalate the case (This was like the 2nd or 3rd time I was told the case was escalated). The RS will call me within 48hrs...

48hrs later I dont receive a call so I call XPS again. This time I tell them I will not accept anything but results from our phone conversation. He agreed and got me in touch with a RS right then and there.

So now I am on the phone with a guy named Josh, who is very helpful in the long run. He can see my phone logs, my account, where my laptop is. He confirms the comp was picked up and sent to Memphis. From there all info stops. So the first step is he says we need to call customer care. So we conference with a customer care tech and go through the SAME hoops as before, ending with "We will call you within 48hrs" and closes the conversation. Josh says "well thats strange" and he concludes what happened was when the account was transferred my name was mixed up with another. The other name is a fraudulent account. So he says he will look into the laptop situation and call me back. grrr

A few days later(Monday of this week), no call so I call XPS up. I got in touch with Josh and he starts off the conversation "I have bad news and good news" Bad news: They lost my laptop. they saw it going to Memphis, but from there its gone. Good news: They will be sending me a new one that is similar or better... Kind of stunned I say ok. He gives me a dispatch number and says it should ship within 2 days.

Kind of anxious I JUST got off the phone with Josh again. He says it should be sent this afternoon or tomorrow. He promised to call me every day with a stat report until the issue is resolved. So now i wait.

When this is resolved I plan on taking action. No customer should be put through this at all. I bought enough minutes on my cellphone to last me until January and burned them all in November dealing with Dell. Its been a complete headache. I bought a laptop originally to make my school life and my free time easier and stress free. Its been anything but.

So lets see what happens within the next few days -_-

Ugh....I totally know how you feel, I've been talking to dell for probably a total of 30+ hours trying to get this replacement all in order, and in the end they screw it up, well at least the dumb rep made a promise that I will make sure to take advantage of.
