Hey guys, I needed some input in this upgrade. Here are the facts
Laptop: Toshiba L35-S2174
CPU: Intel Celeron M 420 533MHz FSB, Yonah Socket M (CPU-Z reports it as Socket 479 mPGA)
Chipset: ATI XPress 200m RS400/RC400/RC410 (most likely RC410)
Southbridge: ATI SB400
After some researching, I found that the new Intel Celeron M 4xx line has the same socket and similar architecture as the Core Solo/Duo/ 2Duo. Also I think the RC410 chipset supports Core Duo since some laptops have that chipset.
Now I read that some people have failed fromm upgrading the Celeron M CPUs to Core Duo because they had the Celeron only chipset of the Intel 940. Now since the chipset in this laptop is ATI, I don't think I should encounter that problem.
The current Celeron runs on 533MHz FSB, but I believe the chipset should support the Core Duo 667MHz. If it turns out that it doesn't, the I believe the 533MHz Core Duo might have a shot.
Now if anyone can help give me some input on where I can expect any trouble, I can upgrade this little project laptop. I know the BIOS may be an issue, but atleast I would be willing to try. The only thing that is stopping me from buying a Core Duo is that I am not 100% sure if the ATI chipset will support it.
If anyone remembers reading that a ATI chipsent runs a Core Duo/ or C2D fine, let me know. I know some configureable laptops have the Celeron M 430 as the base option, then upgrade to the Core Duos, but the ones I saw have the Intel chipsets. I'll gladly appreciate any advise. thanks.
