Have you just tried booting into safe mode by pressing F5 on boot? Do you have antivirus installed?

mine does the exact same thing! It happens when I run a clean install of windows as well as by running the restore CDs. I have a Travelmate 4402WLMi. This started happening to me after my hard drive AND cd drive crapped out on me. I replaced them both to try again and it still does it. I have no idea what the deal is. I thought my computer was damaging my hard drives so I've been running write zeros tests and and the like.. no problems with it. Makes me wonder if my original Hard drive is actually just fine and that the laptio is just kicking the bucket.

quick update..
I seem to be making headway on installing windows right now as we speak. All I did was remove the battery and run it on AC power. See if that does anything.

Good Luck

hi back again after such a long time i finally managed to get the laptop up and running again. went to restore system again today and same god damn thing again after 10 mins turns off BUT i think i sussed it out if you feel the laptop as its trying to restore it get a tad hot, maybe something to do with hdd and dvd running at same time , i don't know. anyway what i did to get it running smoothly was put a nice big fan right next to it to keep it cool. hope this helps anyone else. to fully back up my conclusion i will post back next time i restore or if anyone else try's it then post back your results. thx neb
