Hey guys, question about Dell EPP laptop warranty

I purchased an Inspiron 9300 last year around this time and was considering upgrading the warranty. I'm not sure if it is possible but right now I have the option of adding complete care which will cover the laptop until december of 2008 for $150. Anyhow before I do that, I am trying to make sense of the current warranty I have right now. Does anyone know why there are two different "Next Business Day, Includes Nights/Weekends" and "Technical Support - Phone Assistance?"

What can Next business Day, Includes Nights/Weekends do for me that Limited Technical Support can't?

First, upgade the warranty BEFORE the old warranty runs out.

for all notebooks, the technical support is based on phone only. But the difference is when it comes to replacement of parts. Lets say ur hdd is fried, Dell will replace it for you by sending you a replacement hdd, and YOU will need to pull out the hdd and send it back to Dell within a specified time. But in case, the mobo is fried, normal warranty includes Dell sending you an empty box in which you put the laptop in, and send it to a specified address, and it will get repaired and sent back to u. However, "Next Business Day, Includes Nights/Weekends" involves a technician coming over to your place and replacing the mobo at ur place itself. The nights/weekends is an extra top-up on the warranty wherein the technician will come and replace the necessary parts even if it is beyond business hours or during the weekends.

These warranties are normally added along with the EPP contract between the company and Dell, so you need to check the warranty options included in your EPP contract

Hope that clarifies ur doubt.

Dell always does this. I think it has to do with the first year being standard with anything after that being "additional". It's something along those lines anyway. All three Dell laptops I have purchased have had there warranty's listed that way.

Thanks for the responses guys, I travel a lot and I checked the online warranty extension page. I still have the option of adding complete care for $150 which will cover my laptop until december 2008. Looking through my warranty, I would have had my laptop for one full year in two days. Do you know if it is still possible to purchase the Complete Care after owning the laptop for one year?

Technical Support is one item ordered and "Next business day, N/W" is another item which is an addition to the Technical support, but is still a seperate item ordered. This being said, u cannot buy just the "Next business day, N/W" without buying the Technical support. Both have a part number each, and the agents can see if u have bought the suitable warranty and provide suitable solutions that match the warranty.

you'll be surprised to know that there r many more types of warranty, I can remember at least 6 more, so if u buy them, they will be listed as well, along with their part numbers.

Yes. it is possible to buy the complete care, but it will only be valid for the length of the warranty on the laptop, ie, u cannot buy a 3 year complete care warranty on a laptop which has only 2 years warranty left on it, unless u upgrade the warranty to 3 years as well.
