New M1710 Owner partition questions

I wanna kill the preset HD partitions but before i do i have some questions.

It comes with 4 Partitions..

1st is a 47mb FAT

2nd is the Winows 80gb NTSF

3rd is a 2gb Media Direct

4th is a 4.64 FAT32

Questions....

1st, what is it for?

2nd, Iv'e delete the original during winxp setup, made a new 14gb for windows, now that im in windows the "new partition" options in computer managment is greyed out so i cant create my 72gb D: that i use for games/storage

3rd, Iv'e looked quickly at it. i really dont see myself ever using it, i guess its okay to delete?

4th whats this for?


Their is a built in diagnostic program i just found, accessed it by pressing F12 on startup. I dont want to lose this for nothing... what partition is it on?

The first is the diagnostic. The fourth contains a complete factory image of your system (2nd partition), just in case you want/need to restore XP and the DELL bloatware (CNTRL + F11 at boot). If you don't use media direct, then by all means--delete that part as well.

For example, when I got my i9300, I deleted all parts except the 1st, created my own and reinstalled XP, etc.

Yeah, you don't really need the diagnostic. You can run that from a boot CD if need be. But at only 47 megs, I left it on there.

all gone, then made 35GB windows, 43GB shared, 20GB Ext-3 and 2GB Lin Swp on mine... workin sweet
