Question for ppl. who ship fragile things.

Thread Starter
I have a 19" wide screen LCD, When I bought it I was a frickin idiot and through away the foam molds that came in the box with it. I am thinking about trying to sell the LCD b/c I'm not all that thrilled with wide screen. Is there any other way to ship this thing w/out it getting all beat up. It is a Hanns-G LCD if that matters at all. I have the original box but not the foam, which IMO is more important than the box itself.

find a slightly larger box and fill it with those little foam esses? the S shaped noodles.

Make sure theres enough padding....and if your paranoid put that in another box and pad that one?

Loose fill isn't that great. Your BEST bet would be to use Bubble wrap....expensive but it would ensure the LCD would arrive undamaged. Wrap it up and tape it together. You might also have to use a larger box for it. You can get a 12" by 125' roll with 1/2" Diameter bubbles from www.uline.com Just search for item S-3223. Shouldn't be more than about $30 with shipping. Uline will sell to anybody too, I've bought a SINGLE roll of Kapton tape from them without problem.

wrap it in bubble wrap. insert in big box with those little plastic/styro noodles!

itll work great, but the box needs to be big enough. with enough noodles in that box, that monitor wont budge because of the bubble

YES, stay away from loose fill (i.e.- "peanuts," etc.) for heavy objects. Heavy items can shift during transit and next thing you know, your spendy screen's against the wall of the box and all it'd take it one good whack from another box on a conveyor to make it worth not much at all.

Having worked in the shipping industry for ~5 years myself, I was going to throw in a few pointers, but it sounds like the guys have you covered here.

there is no way it will shift if its wrapped in bubble wrap, and there is enough peanut in there.

ive shipped about 10 lcd's just this way. all people have reports lcd was fine, and located in the box.
problem with shifting, people go a little too easy on the peanuts, and there is open space in box.

Make sure to write fragile and this side up in big red letters, no matter how good u pack and what you use it wont matter if it's stacked on the bottom.
