PLZ Help - I have sucker all over my forehead

My daughter gave me her Gateway 3520GZ. It was having a pwr issue with the cord. She thought it was easier to just buy a new laptop!

The computer wont stay on unless I press on the pwr cord. The L shaped part of the pwr cord right at where it fits into the pwr port on the computer.

It is getting worse - harder to keep a contact. A wiggle at first now a more than gentle push (continual) is needed to keep pwr on. I am clueless on the battery. It may need to be repalced but since I cant get continous pwr (unless I hold it for ????) to charge it up - who knows!!!

Any ideas. I have searched all pwr issues and cant find this mentioned. New motherboard? New power something? If I go in anywhere for help I believe they could say anything and I would be out Big Bucks?

thank you

First check the power cord and make sure you have continuous power. You can pickup up an cheap multimeter to test.

If you can wriggle the cord and maintain even voltage, then the problem is probably with a broke soilder connection on the power connector.

If you are not handy with a soildering iron or have ever been inside of the computer or if it is still under warrantly, send it in to be fixed or find a reputable shop locally. I do mean reputable because some small computer shop don't have qualified people to handle small electronics repair.

If you go to one of the Electronics / TV repair shops, you may get ripped.
