Very dim screen after lightning strike

It's a Gateway 450ROG and from what I've read about dim screens, everything seems to point towards a bad inverter or backlight. Considering that lightning caused the problem, should I try replacing the inverter first? I downloaded the service manual but there's no chapter on inverter replacement. However, I did find this article regarding replacement.

The video seems fine when hooked up to a CRT. Brightness adjustments have no effect on LCD.

Any suggestions or experience regarding what should be checked first would be greatly appreciated.

I'm with you on leaning towards the inverter. ONly one way to find out!
