toshiba switches to battery power uncontollably

Thread Starter
I have a Toshiba Satellite P10 that I just can seem to figure out. When I power up my laptop it will just switch to battery power uncontrollably and stop charging the battery. What this means is that I cannot simply run it on AC power b/c instead of switching to battery power it will just turn off completely. I can use the laptop until the battery wears out, then I have to unplug it and plug it back in until it charges up again.

Originally I thought that it was a power supply issue so I purchased a new one, hoping this would solve the problem. Next I figured that it must be the power jack on the laptop, as I heard that these are poorly designed in Toshiba's. So I followed a guide in bringing the jack outside of the laptop, soldering on wires and a brand new jack. After doing all this I still get the same problem. I would like to get this thing fixed, or in the very least be able to run just on ac power. If anyone has any thoughts on this that would be great.

Do you still have warranty? If you do I would call Toshiba about it.

But since you've been trying to fix this yourself I assume the warranty is over.

If you say you replaced both the power supply and jack, the next logical thing to look at is the motherboard. That's the only thing that would cause the lack of connection between the power cord and supply. Otherwise I would say you didn't fix it right yourself, as this sounds like an obvious jack problem where the AC cord doesn't make good contact with the laptop.

Edit: I re-read your post, and apparently the connection is good, because you stated that you unplug it and plug it back till it charges up again. So that can't be it. I'm stumped. I would either try going to a computer shop, or calling Toshiba and maybe get them to either diagnose the problem (which would prolly cost some money since I'm assuming you have no more warranty) or send in your machine and have it serviced by them (which once again will cost money if no warranty).
