Adding Bluetooth to U200/U205/Tecra M6 - Page 2

here you guys go... some pictures may help the ones who are looking to do this mod..
the toshiba bluetooth stack software worked just fine for me...
for whoever said they got stuck at 5 bars when installing the software, make sure you have a secure connection and rotated the clip, otherwise it will just get stuck for some odd reason.. which is actually what had happend to me before i flipped the clip..

dont worry if your laptop doesnt see the BT immediately when you first boot up.. my pc didnt realize it was there until AFTER i installed the stack software

Finally got my bluetooth module working on my U200-PT3 after many experiments. In my previous post, I was able to install the bt module and got to a point where it stuck on the bluetooth stack installation. I was wondering whether the module was defective or the cable was broken but non of these was the case since I ordered another set and got the same problem after install. I then decided to take the risk and install the bt module when the notebook was on and the installation was running (do it at your own risk!). I left the notebook cover opened and hooked up only the power button and the keyboard and using a USB mouse so that I could access the bt module. At the point where I got stuck during bt stack install, I removed the bt module and put it back in. After many tries, I was lucky to have the installation continues and finished. I found out the problem was the cable, although seemed to be connected to the bt module securely, it may not be contacting the module properly. This could be a side effect of fliping the brown clip since it was not designed that way. By pressing on the cable or lifted it slightly, you should heard the Windows sound where a device is plugged in and detected and you just hold it there. I did the installation twice since the cable must had moved when I put on the screw on the module. So be careful.

BT works fine for me now and I am happy with it. If you need help, please email me. I also have an extra set of module and cable hanging around, email me if you are interested.

But how to get BT antenna?

Hi.

On picture 5 and 7 of your post Bluetooth antenna can be seen - how to get one? Does it come with bluetooth module?

I have all parts needed for installation - I mean I have a list and I'm going to order it soon - but I have no idea if antenna comes with BT module, or do I have to buy seperate one?

Thanks,

ninsei

I've installed as the pictures, flipped the clip, tried pushing and pulling on the cord, tried the flipping the cord every way possible and installed the bluetooth stack but I never get the found new hardware bubble or in device manager. I do not have an antenna yet but this isn't the problem is it? Any other suggestions?

I don't think the antenna matters, the antenna just determine the range of the bluetooth. What OS are you installing on? When mine got connected, I remember hearing the same 'ding' sound when a USB device is connected. Also when I meant 'push and pull', I actually meant 'press and lift' on the cable. However, the device always got detected in my case, just need to 'press and lift' on the cable to get the bluetooth stack finish installing. If your bluetooth stack finished installing with no problem, you may not have the same problem as mine.

Yeah the bluetooth stack installed fine. I never get the ding that it is being installed. I am using Vista.

Ok finally got it on my u205-5067. Even though I installed the toshiba bluetooth stack it still did not find new hardware. It did finally find it after opening the bluetooth settings and searching for devices and then it found the bluetooth module. My next question is I realized that my range was terrible. If I moved the phone to the other side of the laptop it would no longer find it. So I pulled an antenna out of an old laptop that was for its internal wireless card. But this antenna is very long. Should it be cut? Does it matter where the end of the antenna is situated inside the laptop? Also in the old computer the end of the antenna was soldered to a piece of metal. Is this required or would make the reception better? I could not see a spot in the u205 where it could squeeze it in though.

Is this bluetooth a usb bluetooth device as I am reading? Can it be anything else than a bluetooth that could be installed in that port?

No it is not usb and it is not a port. It is an internal bluetooth that connects with a ribbon cable. Nothing else can be connected.

I realize this thread is two years old and the last reply is from over a year ago but I have a question.

I purchased and installed these parts. Windows (Vista Ultimate x86) recognized it as a "Toshiba Bluetooth ACPI Device") and installed the drivers. I downloaded the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack and Bluetooth Monitor. When I first installed the Bluetooth Stack it froze at 5 bars. However, I downloaded a newer version of the stack and it seemed to install fine.

I have a Bluetooth category in my control panel but my problem is that I can't seem to hook any devices up to it. When I search for a device or allow my computer to be found and then search for it with other bluetooth devices nothing is found.

I didn't add in an antenna (I couldn't find any short ones on eBay) but I but my bluietooth mouse right on the keyboard right over the bluetooth antenna and it still wasn't detected.

Did I do something wrong here or do I really need to install and antenna. For you guys that used an antenna, how did you route it inthe case? I really don't want to have to take about the monitor frame to install the antenna.

I don't know much about this BT on the Toshiba, but for other comps that I added BT module, I just lay the antenna where ever I can find space in the slot, and it works fine.

cheers ...
