Warning for new Sager buyers RE: Extended Warranty

My notebook just went out of the 1 year warranty, and within the extended warranty I purchased. I'm now told that the extended warranty I purchased is null and void (Company is ATS). PC Torque has told me "PCTorque has no affiliation with this company...we have no liability to fulfill its warranty contracts". PC Torque is however the one that offered the warranty as an option ($299) on their Website. I was very apprehensive to purchase this warranty and now I wish I never had. I understand PC Torque's predicament; however, it would be nice if they could at least partially honor this warranty they sold me (yes THEY sold it through their Website as a purchase option). I strongly suggest any new purchaser do his/her research in determining just how limited this "limited warranty" really is and whether or not the gamble is worth it or not. Three-hundred bucks isn't cheap but I, as a new Sager purchaser, thought it was important to help safeguard my $3,000 investment. As much as I like my 9880, I'm not sold on PC Torque or their support (my computer has not been trouble free). I buy about one computer every year or so, and as to whether my next purchase will be a Sager is up for question. It really depends on future problems I may have and how helpful PC Torque and/or Sager is in resolving.

lots of people are having issues right now and are in the same boat (including myself with my dead PC). I would NOT have bought a laptop through PCT if i knew this was going to happen. But as long as I get taken care of, I should be ok. Atleast just this one time.

On a good note, you now can get a extended 3 year warranty directly from Sager. If your making a new Sager purchase this is the best one to get. No 3rd party cant fix laptop BS.

It's not just sager but any place that offers an extended warranty that's a 3rd party.

It's not looking good for PCTorque, I wonder what's going to happen to them. This was originally their forum (and i think it still is), but they're not very active.

My primary reason for deciding against Sager was warranty. I've purchased 2 sagers in the past (both through PCTorque) and while I didn't have any trouble with the first one I did with the second. The warranty repair ended up costing me around $300 in shipping charges. They have no options for on site repair and I was without my laptop for about a week and a half (huge revenue loss for me). I like PCTorque and I the products they sell are high performance machines, but I can't be w/o my machine for anywhere near that long. That's why I broke down and bought a dell. Though their options are more limited and I don't like them particularly in general, they do provide the support I need.

Same thing: bought a 9880 from PCTorque in June of 05. First motherboard died in September, less than four months. Sager took care of it quickly and efficiently as it was under their manuf. warranty.

The motherboard died again this November. PCTorque's support had me send it to Sager for the RMA. Sager fixed it on the 20th of November, but it is still there because ATS Warranty filed bankruptcy.

1) I can't get the machine back unless I pay $380 for another motherboard that may not last this time either.
2) I no longer have an extended warranty in case it breaks again.

PCTorque won't help at all, so there is no doubt in my mind. I will never buy anything from them again and I would caution everyone to STAY AWAY from PCT.

Sager built me a machine that doesn't hold up under even moderate use, so I probably will never buy from Sager again either.

I think that there might be a class action suit just waiting to be filed here...

To be fair, the ATS bankruptcy is not limited to PCTorque.com but also effect Discountlaptops and other resellers as well.

I have sent an email to Charles@pctorque.com to see what developments if any on this front since my 9750 was purchased in mid December 2005 but I have not heard a peep back yet for a few days.

In the ole days, Luke would have replied with something rather than leave an email hanging.

In my view and the bottom line is (it's on the invoice), I and we paid for an extended warranty to PCTorque so as far as I am concerned if my 9750 needs repair I will be calling PCT and they can sort it out as to who's now doing the warranty or send it to Sager.

I paid $500 for my extended warranty for 4 additional years as part of the Sager 9750 purchase with PCTorque.com and I expect them to honor it.

Class action suit is not out of the question as an alternative but this is not a road I want to take.

none of you are going to leave some feedback on resellerratings?

Guess I'm screwed too, I bought a 2 year extended warranty as well. Just checked - it's with ATS. Good thing that I'm still under the Sager warranty - my dvr-k16 burner just died.

I'll pile on a class action suit if someone gets started. I want my $200.00+ back.

I'm getting a little bummed here too now. My 4750 is pretty much sitting here useless until I get an email back from luke or charles on what to do with it. This sucks.

I mean seriously, the reason I even bought a Sager was that PCTorque was talked about in such a way to make me confident - that they stood behind their systems no matter what and would go to bat for you when the chips were down. And now this?

Been there...

Reading that entire email thread and looking at it from a legal perspective, Charles is correct, PCT is not obligated to repay you for the warranty and theres nothing they can do, with current bankruptcy laws, to get your money back from ATS.

But as a customer and judging from PCT's former reputation this makes me very sad. I'd expect them to work much harder than they have to help their customers in this issue

there are many of us in the same boat!

Wow, Sorry to here that dude. I finally gave up on sager altogether, Great product, Terrible support. My 8790 is now a doorstop because of this. I have joined the HP crowd for my laptop needs an so far so good.

the only relief any of you are going to have is to file a class claim against ADP and hope that toghether you can all recover some of your money.

Lexus/Nexus search for what court jurisdiction is handling the action and start filing pro se claims against the now dead ADP

The stand up thing to do in this is to work out a deal with Sager and Phillips for a discount on the extended warranty that is sold by Sager thru Phillips.

But is seems the stand up thing has been sitting down for quite a while around these parts....

I have had the same experience with PC Torque and they refuse to help in any way. How long do they expect their company to last if they do not take care of their client base? Has anyone heard of a class action suit being filed against them to reclaim something from this consumer nightmare?

I'm not going to worry about a lawsuit. My personal action will be to not buy through PC Torque or Sager again. I just had to replace another part, that should be covered through my three-year extended warranty that I bought, but they won't cover it. Shoddy business and should be illegal.
