Problem with Pavillion zv5000 power supply

Thread Starter
My HP laptop has something strange happening. When I turn off the laptop, the battery which is brand new, fully charges and I turn it on and the ac adaptor is plugged in. After about an hour or so suddenly the battery icon appears showing that the laptop is only powering off of the battery. I kept plugging the ac adaptor cord in and out and it would not make contact with the laptop. I went to comp usa, good guys, etc etc and had them test the AC adaptor and it worked, it didnt have any problem and it worked on other laptops. But when I plug it into mine it doesnt seem to want to charge the battery while the laptop is on, only when laptop is off. Its crazy I took it to good guys like four times and they said it was a problem with the connection area where ac adaptor plugs in and they took it apart and fixed it a bazillion times and said it works fine only for me to find out a month or two later it has the same problem.. has anyone had this happen before and is there anything I can do, I am fairly good with computers as long as i dont perform open surgery on them. I dont know if I should just go buy another adaptor, I just bought a brand new battery from HP for it.

1: Read thru this thread, there is a poster within that thread which should be able to repair your unit correctly.

If you think it's the adapter, you might try Ebay..

PS: If you could once you log-in, edit your post with the model number of the unit itself within the BODY of the post, along with maybe the purchase date...

You might want to also mention how often you use the unit on battery, total run time on the unit, things like if you leave the unit on 24/7, battery in or out when using it in a desktop confiquration... how often you use the laptop as a laptop, how often you charge the unit.... If the power input connector has ever been "bumped".... Stuff like that..

PS: You can charge the unit thru the docking port on most units.

A media cable that plugs into the side of your PC will accept your A/C plug and solves your problem forever.

I am experiencing this exact same problem. I have an HP ZV5000 notebook. It is about 4 years old and I have replaced the battery and power supply. The Power supply is 19v - 6.3 A. The problem started intermittent but now has reached the point where I am constantly unplugging and replugging the power to the notebook connnector. I have removed the back of the notebook and checked the connector and it appears to be firmly connected. I have cleaned the posts but nothing seems to help. At this point the notebook is all but unusable because of this problem.

. How long ago did you replace the adapter and the battery?

. What did your "unplugging and replugging" actually achieve?

. Stock calls for 18.5V and 4.9A; so you might push it a bit. Try the correct adapter and see.

cheers ...

Stop fooling around with that worthless jack. Get a media cable that plugs into the side of your zv5000 and plug your A/C jack into it and your problem is solved forever. I've had mine for almost 3 years without a problem. I got tired of paying $350 to replace it every 15 months. The media cable plugs and screws in the side of your laptop securely, and has a receptacle for your A/C plug. Check google and google for the correct media cable for your laptop. There are two different models. Good luck.

Get a media cable and you problem is solved forever. Here is one place that offers it. It is an XC1000 and has a receptacle for your A/C plug and is secured to the side of your zv5000 laptop. Good luck.
