What system is the area 51 based on.. i am trying to debate whether i shoudl go with aw or get something thin and light.. i can't decide..

isn't it just an odm painted.. if not whate else do they do to it.. what makes it worth the money?

It's built by uniwill for Alienware

lol based on that logic every notebook is "just a painted ODM"

I think he meant OEM.

The Uniwill case is extremely heavily modified, it's not JUST painted. A list of mods off the top of my head (There are doubtless others):

1) Glowing alien eyes
2) Rubberized grips
3) Paint job
4) User-upgradable graphics module

I think number 4 is the biggest by far.

I did, it was a typo, sorry.

I thought I was reading hre that others were recommending an oem version of this machine, not sure i recall though.

I have to admit I like the AW, but they seem a tad (lot) on the pricey side to me.

If you are worried about price you may want to go with sager they are excelent laptops from what I hear around here (the last thing you want is buyer remorse) although they do have their problems just like any computer does. I was originaly going to buy a new car but unfortunatly being as young as I am my credit just wasn't there yet. It was suggested to be to get a small personaly loan and pay it off before tyring again so I bought this laptop! So far its been a great investment I have used it daily for work but mostly for games! If you do go Alienware I'm sure you will not be disapointed although like any piece of electronics there can always be bugs in the system but the sytem as a whole is solid i have heard of very few arriving "DOA". Mine runs great eversince I got it back in November its been trhough a Lan Party playing non-stop for 30hrs! wich I'm about to do again this friday! It plays every game I throw at it and it looks good doing it!

The Alienware Area 51-M is loosely based on the Uniwill N258SA. http://www.uniwill.com/Product/N258SA0/N258SA0.html Though really to what extent I cannot say. It is heavily modified like Guspaz stated.

Wow, post number 250 already. I usually don't stick around on forums long enough to get this many posts

It's actually not based on that Uniwill model. I'm not certain, but I believe it is this model:

http://www.uniwill.com/Product/N766/N766.html

Notice how that one is essentially the same. Look at the trackpad, keyboard, and front speakers, as well as chassis shape. Again, I'm not 100% sure that's the one, to confirm I'd have to go digging through the forums.

You are right. The appearances are much more similar. I just didn't notice this model before.
