massive lag in kde 3.5.5

is it just me or debian, or is it the whole kde thing but its really annoying. pretty much lets say i reboot my system and click the icon to open kopete (sometimes konqueror or kate) and then it "loads" but it doesn't, and then about 5 minute later it FINALLY pops up on the screen....

another problem is when i try to open kde apps through konsole
Code:
lappy:/home/munky# kate
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

kate: cannot connect to X server :0.0

suggestions?

using Debian 4.0 Etch

I noticed this too, and I have a feeling that there's a memory leak or something in how the Deb distros are handling KDE 3.5.5 (though I have NO idea why Arch would have that issue).

My fix? Fluxbox

Maybe it's a user permissions issue. Have you tried opening the apps through a root console?
