Dell 600m with 1.4 gig Centrino. It gives me 2.5 hours of battery life while others have 5 hours. Why.
Maybe the 600m has a small battery. I have a 8 cell battery on my nc6000 and so far I've gotten 4 hours doing moderate to heavy work --> DVDs/Light Gaming.

Lucky I guess
Check somebody has not jacked into your battery and is sucking juice out
Slow electrons?
Make sure you did not use an Alien battery
You laptop wants to be a Sager
The hampster inside is getting tired - try changing his diet

Remind me never to lend you my laptop.
I would want it back in one piece and not out of order

Haha the fact that I have gone through 5 laptops doesnt mean that I destroyed them or harmed them in any way All it means is that I am a notebook lover and that I have experimented with all spectrums of notebooks. From a 2 pounder to a 10 lb. Love all of them. But I currently need a ultra portable for the type of type of work I am currently involved in.

Bleh... sheesh Im telling you that I am bad at catching on to jokes. It wasnt until I had written what is above that I realized that you were joking and I caught it.

...

Well haha oh well. I need a sense of humor.

LOL..... funny! But don't you have bad knees too from always kneeling down to plug in your rig to the outlet? J/k!
Nah, you get bad knees and bad back from the system that created the term 'luggable': Toshiba T3200sx/16. AC only, 16 lbs, 2 ISA Slots. My first laptop/notebook/whatever.

And people who've never seen or forgot those old Toshibas look at me with the 8890 and ask 'How can you deal with that?' Now that's priceless.
Well, my desktop system would make a great laptop if i glue my LCD to the side of my case and my keyboard right under it. Then all 6 of my speakers glued to various positions on the case with the subwoofer tied to the bottom. Make for a great 40kg laptop that would impress any heavy laptop lover. Now to find a DC to AC converter, then strap a car battery next to the subwoofer...
Nah, car battery won't work. Not enough power. You need to get one of those military surplus submarine batteries, 24 volt, I haven't any idea of how much capacity, but lots and lots, extreme deep (no pun intended) cycling ability. They weigh a lot but who cares, you're already up to 40 kg, what's another 100. Now that's mobility with a capital Mo.
Ahhh, then i'll stick with a petrol powered power generator. that way i can skip out the DC to AC converter all together, put wheels on it and push it all down to the local gas station to fill er' up
post #32 of 41
Haha you guys are crazy.
Better than that NovaShine, provide a power take off from the generator to the wheels and save yourself all that pushing. Put a seat on it and voila`, you've got a self-propelled notebook. Add a bar, a sunshade, maybe full-time 4WD, hey, how about GPS? Man, you've got it made! Might have to beef up that generator a tad but what the heck, V8's are cheap and multiple gas tanks are really cool. Heck, they make some really mongo diesels for boats, I mean BIG! REALLY BIG!! Like 12K horsepower, turbo-charged of course. With a couple of those, you could add that guest wing for LAN parties.
hahaha, i can just imagine the look on their faces during a lan party in the wing when you announce that you bought your laptop, when they ask where it is, you just point to the ceiling.

Question:

I'm totally up for buying a DTR type of laptop, but I'd like to ask the enthusiasts here why they would rather have a DTR in contrast to a Desktop? For me it would have to be the integration of the LCD and Components in one machine, coupled in with a reasonable price/performance ratio and the sheer fact that laptops are just plain "cool".
Eh...

Muh laptop bag, with the Sager 8790 and the necessary goodies in it weighs 21 pounds.

Like I've said before, my 8790 was bought to be a DTR, period.
Yeah, I guess after just purchasing a Sager 9860 I have to say that I'm with you on the heavy notebook thing. I just received it yesterday and all the extra weight is more than worth it after looking at the gorgeous 17" WSXGA Display and the power that it has...
My Fujitsu N6010 is great. I use it for my side jobs, and really dont mind the weight. I'd rather have performance than portability all the time. And yes 17" wsxga displays are dead sexy. If ur so concerned about weight then go to the damn gym.
performance is nice to have but alot of people just use their laptops for email, internet, office apps and movies. If you need more power than go for it, if not then smaller is usually better.
I myself am a heavy laptop enthusiast.
I'll be ordering a sager 9860 in a couple weeks, which instantly puts me into that category.
To answer "why not a desktop?" I'd have to say because with a desktop, you've gotta carry speakers, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and a rocket launcher for repelling people asking you "Dude, why do you have a desktop strapped to your back?"
A DTR encompasses all of those things in a reasonably portable package, while not being a weak system.
The rocket launcher you don't even need with a DTR because everyone just notices you have a huge laptop that seems to be awesome.

I'm also fairly interested in the mobile/gamer systems combining good mid-range graphics cards and mobile processors, which seem to excell in gaming.

I notice after being on thee forums, when I walk around the university I work at, I can name the brand of the laptops the students have almost on sight. You people are hax0ring my brains megahertz. D:
