More like, released ONLY for the 7950 GTX in the XPS. Users of the 7800 and 7900gs are still out of luck.
Actually, considering that the Inspiron 9400 that shipped with the 7800 is still stuck on version v78.59, I don't have much hope that Dell will *EVER* update the drivers for the 7900gs past v84.69.
I'm using nVidia's official GeForce Go drivers right now anyhow. I'm going to hope that they do update them.
Am I the only one who finds it absolutely insane that nVidia's ForceWare, which is supposed to be a *UNIVERSAL DRIVER* for all their videocards, is now splintered into a confusing array of single-videocard releases?
It's not just Dell that's to blame. The official nVidia GeForce Go 7xxx series drivers *WILL NOT* install on the GeForce Go 7800, only the 7900gs and above. The thing is, the difference between the two cards is so incredibly minor, and the desktop drivers will support everything with an INF patch, this is getting insane.
So, to conclude my rant, perhaps the desktop driver situation is much improved from 10 years ago before Catalyst and Detonator/ForceWare, but for those of us using notebooks, the driver situation is just as bad (fractured) as desktops were before they got unified drivers.
