Toshiba P105-S9722 Volume

Is there any way I can increase the max volume coming out of this thing? I Just did the 7900GSX Mod and the only downside I see to this beast is the volume.

Thanks.

Laptop sound cards are pretty crappy. The only way would be to get a real external sound card. THESE are pretty popular. Before getting the PCMCIA one, make sure your laptop has a PCMCIA slot and not the newer PCI express.

Well, I don't want to buy a sound card if it's not going to help. I don't know if it's limitations of the speakers or the sound card.

It's extremely low on my Headphones as well

It's the sound card. There are a few laptops that do have better internal sound cards (Qosimo, some of the XPS's, etc). But most laptops have pretty bad internal soundcards.

Getting one of those external sound cards I posted earlier will make a huge difference from what I've read. Just search the forums for Audigy and see what others have to say about them in comparison to the built in soundcards.

It could be something as simple as having the system sound level set low. Go to the bottom right of your screen and find the little speaker icon. Click on it and bring up the visual. Make sure your master volume is set high. Also check you other levels (like Wav volume, line in, and cd volume). Does this help?

I've tried everything on mine. Nothing helps. The amplifier circuitry is horrid.

I have the Creative labs PCMCIA/PCCARD Audigy board. Works great. Sound will blow your ears off with it. It'll also feed through your speaker system on the notebook, but there'll be a 1/2 second delay. If you go this route, install the original drivers first, then use the web update to update them all. DO NOT go to the website first or you'll have tons of issues.

BTW, tell me about "7900GSX Mod". I've been reading about it, made the CD, been to "chicken" to try it.

Also, for this series notebook, the chipset drivers are old, the wifi drivers are old, the NIC drivers are old, the sound drivers are old. Feel free to search and replace these old drivers with new ones. Also, if you need decent vid drivers, www.laptopvideo2go.com is the best place to start your research.

Really? The Creative website says it won't play through the notebook speakers. Is there some kind of hack to make this work?

Not busting your chops or anything, I just want to get this laptop, and have been put off by the sound issue. If this can be fixed with this card, I am gonna run out and make the purchase.

The New feature mode selection utility will redirect the sound through the built in speakers. because it routes it through the on board sound card it will NOT make it louder...

But if you have this card and you plug in decent speakers, 2.1, 5.1, 7.1 or a decent pair of headphones, you can make your listening experience very painful. lol

So, sound card works, will also play through the speakers internally (But at the same volume), hooked up to real speakers through the creative card, it's nice.

Ok, thanks. Still will probably get it. This is a pretty awesome notebook.

Found a slight catch now with the card and this notebook.

With the latest drivers:
1. Plug and play isn't. You can't stop the card using the standard method, ejecting BSOD's. Not in the mood to troubleshoot it either. Shutting down/starting up is quick. lol

2. Games like Battlefield 2142 (My new Christmas present), if you set the audio to "hardware" instead of software, you get odd "feedback" I'm wondering if this has to do with latency, etc. Again, haven't bothered to troubleshoot as this is the only program that I have that tries to directly control the sound hardware instead of through software.

BTW, BF2142, graphics are sweet with this notebook. Have them set to max, with 2xAA, 4x AF (I think it was 4)

This video card rocks. Totally toasts my desktop card!

It always surprises me that the main complaint about this computer is the volume, because it's definitely loud enough on its own speakers to hear across the house...have I just been used to subpar speakers on my old Gateway (which I didn't consider low in volume at all), or do I just have a totally different definition of "loud"?

So I'm an idiot. I forgot there was a volume jog on the outside of the laptop. Obviously, I found it. No complaints anymore.

Yup, there's a vol dial on the front, but the only thing it really helps for me is the annoying system beep. Turning it up to get any decent vol out of it distorts the sound on mine.

Could you really flash your 7900GS safely??? I thought it wasn't possible or it was all least dangerous! What ROM did you use and how's it hangin'?

Because I have the model P100 in europe (model PSPA6E) which comes with one 7900GS. I believe the notebooks are identical except for the remote and fingerprint stuff (and color, mine is orange cooper =P ). They even have the same BIOS version. The P105-9722 also uses the P100 2.40 system BIOS which is the one I use.

Can you help me on this??
