New e-machines may be coming soon!

New e-machines may be coming soon! Our friends who frequent the general section have discovered that the radeon 9700 powered voodoo m870 looks exactly the same as the e-machines m6805/m6807 (made by Arima). If this is true, which it appears to be, then estimates of a new e-machines in April seem right on the money! The first mainstream r9700, can't wait, go e-machines!!

An intriguing theory. One can only hope some sort of official channel releases more information on the upcoming eMachines models soon ...but it would seem a bit early for them to replace the M6805/07 series, seeing as how I think they have only been available for just shy of 2 months now. I also hope to see the puzzling withdrawl of the M6807 from CC's listings explained...it could simply be nothing more than demand exceeding supply, but it does make one wonder.

Regardless of the upcoming new machines, I'm still thrilled and proud to be one of the M680x series owners!

New E-Machines model

I spoke with E-Machines yesterday and was able to confirm that model M6809 will be released sometime in the next 2-3 weeks (or in April) based upon E-Machine's 3 month product cycle.

However, I was unable to get the specs though I would agree the video card will probably be a 9700.

Any chance of them offering 17inch wide screen (probably not), how about faster harddrive, and two easily upgradable ram slots.

I don't think so. My theory, (THEORY!!! no proof to back it up) is that the M6809 is just an upgraded m6807 with the ATI9700. My guess is that it will be the cheaper 64meg version. Since it will use the same case, the screen will be the same as well as the ram configuration.

Depending on the price, it looks to be another excellent bang for the buck notebook.

i posted this over in hardforums

here's my bet for the new emachines system:

- 128 meg 9600 card...the 9700, it's too expensive to fit with emachines pricing structure. the 9600s dropped in price.

- same pioneer 2x DVD burner

- better screen...possibly WSXGA.

- same 60 gig HD...not faster.

- POSSIBLE processor upgrade, though again...keeping with their pricing structure, they'll probably stick with the 3000+...it's inexpensive AND it's REALLY powerful.

that's my call. i also think it'll fall around $1799.00...give or take $50.00.

anybody else?

I'm with Andrew, his mind was reading mine apparently on this upcoming M6809 model. Although I'm still thrilled with my M6805, I can't wait to see how much difference there is between all 3 of the M680x series. Part of me wonders if I should have held off and waited for this M6809...but then again, who can argue with the $1299 + tax I paid for the M6805 after rebates. I also know that those who play the waiting game when it comes to technology, wait eternally for the perfect machine. Besides, if I hadn't gotten this machine, I would still be stuck with the closed-minded opinion that eMachines suck, which we all know isn't true, at least when it comes to the M680x series

Voodoo just came out with a new notebook based on the Arima W730 (the eMachines M6807 is based on the Arima W720). This new notebook apparently has a Mobility Radeon 9700 and 15.4 inch widescreen. Most likely the new eMachines is this notebook.

See this thread.

LOL...

I too think eMachines will tone down the specs, seeing how it will be thousands less expensive than the voodoo.

Has anyone opened their unit up to determine if the vga card is integrated? If integrated, Arima would not likely switch the video card version of the W730-K8 from 9700 to 9600, especially since 9700 is really only a pipeline expanded (I think from 2 to 4) version of the 9600. Redoing the manufacturing for separate oems (Voodoo can't be shipping so many that Arima would manufacture one separately) so I guess the M6809 will either be a 128mg or 64 mg.

I do think it will be a 3400+ processor since merely upgunning the video without further expansion would be inconsistent with EM's product cycle policy. If you look to discontinued models, I noticed that it followed upgunned processors more than video. However, the M680x series is new and maybe EM will follow a different policy.

I digress, of course.

I just hope the new model will arrive soon or I will pick up an M6805 just to solve the immediate problem of a dead Toshiba 3003 notebook

Specs are out

Doesn't look like too much of an upgrade. Go to www.jandr.com and look at the upcoming emachines notebooks for the specs. Also, you can look up the 6807 on the emachines website, and modify the address to 6809 instead of 6807 to get their spec sheet.

Both sources show that it's basically a 6807 with a 3200+ chip and an 80-gig hard drive for $1649. Same Radeon 9600 graphics. They do include an obvious error, which is that the graphics are shared with the system memory. The ATI web site, however, shows that the 9600 comes only in 3 flavors: (1) Discrete, meaning that you can associate dedicated memory to the chip, up to 128Mb, (2) 64 Mb on-chip, (3) 128Mb on-chip. Soooooo....don't think that you can have a 9600 with a lame shared memory system. I emailed emachines and jandr.com about what I assume is an error.

Anyway, still love my 6805 -- if I want to upgrade, I'll buy a new chip down the line and/or a bigger drive (I'd get the 7200rpm one, anyway). Only wish I could have found a 6807 so I could have had the DVD burner.

All the best,

Bill

Wild... it looks like eMachines is coming out with a P4 2.8Ghz version too... the M6410... I hadn't noticed that before; I wonder if it supports 64 bit computing?
