cx7 heat and cooling

I’m about to order a cx7 and I’ve been wondering how warm it gets. Would it be worth it to buy a laptop cooler for it?

I would say go aheade and get one, the cooler the better.....I have an EX7 and it gets pretty warm, I am still looking for a good laptop cooler

most people seem to be saying just lift up the back end, targus sells a unit that lifts the back end up at an angle and the fans do the rest

My CX7 gets warm (not hot) on the front edge. The fan does a great job keeping the rest cool, and kicks up its speed when necessary.

If I was getting a cooler, so far the absolute nicest one I've seen is posted in TheFlyingPig's pix of his new CX7:

I don't know how he likes it so far, because I think he's been too busy exploring and setting up his new notebook to post here.
Here's the link to the Nexus site:

I just got my CX7 last week, so I haven't had a lot of time with it, but it seems to stay pretty cool. Trying as hard as I can, I can only get it to about 54*C, and it's usually only around 48*C, even when gaming or rendering 3D animation.

my EX7 runs in the 50's normaly but when gaming or doing other CPU using stuff, it has gotten up to 77c.....hasnt gotten hot enough to shut down ...I think the limit on it is in the low 80's

In regards to my cooler... I bought it based on other reviews. But its made more for 14 and 15 inch notebooks.
My goal to come out with a review before 07 never happened, but I promise, one is coming someday in the near future.
Anyhow. fanwise. If you go to my pix, the larger of the 2 fans on the bottom of the case is the one that does all of the cooling. The smaller on is there, but doesn't make as large of a difference.
Even if I game for 3-4 hours, the fan and the area like 1 inch around it is cool to the touch.
The palm areas to the left and right of the touchpad get warm, but it doesn't get hot. And I'm currently using a Saitek Eclipse 2 keyboard, so I don't notice it.
Some people stare at me weirdly when I take this laptop to the couch and use it on my legs, but the only thing you have to do is make sure you don't cover the large fan, so it still does its job.
Well you also have to be sure that you don't need it for more than 1.5 hours, or might wanna find an ac adaptor.

Anyhow. back to the cooling pad.
So the reason that I think it doesn't work that well is because it doesn't really touch my lappy. The rubber feet sit on it, but it doesn't directly touch any warm areas. Yet, after a few hours of gaming, the nexus cooling pad is a bit warm, so I guess it does its job. The reason I still use it instead of jus trashing it is because it lifts the notebook up, for more cooling, and it also tilts it by like 2-4 degrees, which helps slightly.
The notebook fits nicely lengthwise, but it sticks out on the left and right side by about 1.5 inches on each side.
I guess its good that it touches the rubber feet not the laptop's plastic so I don't have to worry about the metal scratching the plastic of the laptop.
But Its good because it seems to do its job in a fanless manner.
If you want the best cooling, you have to find something with a fan, but the fan in the clevo does its job well, so giving it space is worth the 30 dollars.

[I'm really lazy to write the review at the moment. I might write a review of CES in the same article]

Well it finally came today. So far it seems to cool effectively. I’ll try to right a review about it soon.

I have a CX7 (one of the first generations) and I simply use the Targus Cool Podium (can't remember the actual name - but something like that). It is what dg5032 is talking about above. It is not a fan unit - rather just elevates the system. Works nice. I have had some 15+ hour gaming sessions in WOW and I have had no issues at all.

One note that seems to be common sense, but everyone forgets from time to time - blow out your vents. Even elevated - those fans collect dust real fast. We have a bi-weekly routine in our home. But it will be noticeable when it starts collecting the dust.

Good luck - and congrats Lethys! It is a nice system. Mine is not the newer model - but great nonetheless.

As I've used my CX7 for the last 8 months, I've noticed that my desk top gets quite warm, especially under the front edge of the notebook. I've felt that the engineers who designed the CX7 probably feel any heat generated is acceptable, but I wanted a little reassurance.

All along I mostly wanted to raise it up some so more air could get underneath it, but I haven't seen any non-fan coolers that were the right size that I liked for the $$. Last week I found a Chefmate black-coated cookie cooling rack in Target that is almost the perfect size (15 7/8 X 10). I figured for $4.99 it was worth a try.
Being metal, it helps transfer rather than insulate heat. Being open, it allows plenty of air to move. Being raised, it gives another 1/2" off the desk top. Being matte black, it does not look so much like I pulled it out of the kitchen cabinet.
And as a bonus, it's non-stick!

I want to rubberise the feety things, so I bought some plasti-dip rubber coating from Home Depot for $5.99, more than the rack. So I'm looking around the house to see what else needs a black rubber coating!

As time has gone on, it has been reaching higher and higher temperatures. I suspect that a lot of dust has gotten into it. Can anyone offer advise for cleaning the insides of all that dust?
