I just about messed myself...

When I got home from my final exam this afternoon, I fired up my computer to check my email. A couple of spams and some things from school, and a message from Alienware Tech Support. Apparently my warranty had just been voided. I called in a few days earlier to see what could be done about a broken battery latch. The guy said I would have to send it in to depot...um, no. Not durin finals anyway. So I asked if I could use superglue to fix it. Fernando authorized me to repair the latch myself, as long as the case was not modified (Dont glue stuff to your laptop!). Once that was taken care of, I sent a message to update my status on the support site. Well...come Monday, I find out that I was NOT authorized to fix the latch and now my warranty has been "released". So 45 minutes later I find out that someone read the notes wrong and it was all just a big misunderstanding. I have my warranty back and things are good (except for my Finals ).

While I was on the phone, I asked about the new internal wireless card. I was told that the card is still in testing and that once the bugs are worked out, that owners of the P.O.S. Atheros card will receive a replacement and that a technician wil be sent along to ensure that it is installed/configured properly. Unfortunately, no ETA on when this might occur.

I've heard this in-house tech support mentioned many times, and Alienware's North America site caters to both the US and Canada. I wonder where, if it exists, Alienware's Canadian location is for dispatching technicians. I mean, Alienware's website has prices in canadian dollars, and has FedEx Canada's shipping+tax calculator tied in...

Tony -

My machine runs great. It runs all the games I play at high detail (CoD, KOTOR, UT2003, etc) but my main purpose for the pc was for CAD drawing, which it also does flawlessly. I had an issue, but it didn't affect the way games ran and was fixed without incident.

Sounds good...I guess I don't have to shell out the extra few hundred for top of the line specs...

Not right now, you dont. And if you wait for the R9700 to come out, things will run even better. If you feel like you need a 3.4GHz proc. or a 7200 rpm HD or whatever the rage may be in a few months, you can just buy the proc. and slap it in, cuz this thing is "completely" upgradeable.
