Inspiron 640m/E1405 minipci wifi card antenna routing

Alrighty, I got a great deal on a refurbished Dell 640m/E1405 laptop for my mother for this Christmas. It is in the mail right now. However, being the dufus that I am I happened to order the one laptop that Dell sold that did NOT come with an internal wifi card. I noticed this today as I was glancing over the order confirmation email I recieved. It said "No Wirelss LAN Card" right up at the top of the spec sheet. Well, now I feel dumb.

Getting and installing a minipci wifi card is not an issue, easy to do. HOWEVER, routing the antenna to where it needs to go probably will be. Unless, anyone would know if they would happen to build these laptops spec'd for wifi and just did not install a card. If that is not the case, does anyone how these antennae are routed? I know that my trusty ol Sager np4750 routes the antenna from the minipci card on the bottom of the motherboard, through a small hole to the topside of the motherboard and then up into the screen module of the laptop near where the left hinge is. The antenna then runs up the side of the screen so it is vertical when the screen is open. But thats the Sager. Does anyone have experience with this model of laptop. The motherboard does use miniPCI, correct?

I really couldn't care less about voiding my warranty.

By the way, it has been a really long while since I've been back to these forums. I frequented the Sager and offtopic sections alot in 2k4 and early 2k5. Not sure what I think of the new style. I had to click on the "view the old forums" button up at the top to feel like I knew what I was doing.

So, anyone with any experience with this model laptop?

Thanks alot :-)

The antennas are already there. When you open up the miniPCI cover you'll see 2 wires, one white and one black. Connect the white one to Main and the black one to Aux on the WiFi card when you install it.

Man, you have made my day! I was terrified that I was going to have to crack open the screen casing and the whole nine yards :-)

I'm gonna purchase an Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 miniPCI card tonight then.
