Anyone know of a place where i could get a laptop for cheap...i am talking a cheap ass laptop with little ram...small hdd...very basic..doesn't even come with windows or any of that crap because I am going to install Linux on it and use it for homework and programming.

I just need a laptop that works...comes with no software crap...looks decent...but the specs are very low.

Price Range: $200-$400

You have two options, buy an old one used or go to Dell with a really good coupon.

Old used laptops....where is a good place to find them....and this Dell coupon...how would this get me a laptop without buying winxp and very low specs?

Ebay or the for sale section of this forum.

And the Dell route will end up getting you windows, but you dont have to keep it on there. A simple format of the disk solves that problem. As for low specs, just dont configure it any higher than the lowest stuff.

These are the only ways I can think of to get a laptop for under $400.

What do you think of this place:
http://www.compuoutlet.com/products.asp?type=dell

For used laptops.

I've never heard of them and nobody has ever reviewed them on reseller ratings. I'd be a little cautious if you want to deal with them.

Used is ok. If buying used, I'd try looking locally maybe local computer resellers, or through your local craiglist.com listings. That way you can see it and try it out before you pay. Next step up is refurbished. Someplace like;

https://www.eritech.com/index.php

does a good job with refurbished laptops. One IBM and a couple of Dell refurbs, fall into your price range there today.. Good Luck..

It's too late now, but you shoulda gotten up early on Black Friday. There were some powerful laptops in the $299 range at compusa, staples and officemax.
