Dell Inspiron1501 vs Latitude 131L

Hi,
I'm considering purchasing a Dell AMD based Notebook (or an HP AMD based NX6325).
What, if any, are the major differences between the Inspiron 1501 w/TL-50 and Latitude 131L w/TL-50, and "business" vs "consumer" class Dell's.

Thanks,
rb

Latitudes are designed for the business user on the go thus thee considered more reliable due to a sturdier chasis but all the inside parts are essentially the same.

Actually, they're the same system with a different outter shell. The 131 lacks the media buttons of the 1501. The only other difference is that Latitudes get domestic support during regular business hours (till like 7PM central M-F). The 131 doesn't have the standard 3 year mail-in warranty of the D series either. I'd just as soon go with the 1501 unless the 131 was significantly cheaper in price.

The 1501 does NOT have any multimedia buttons. Outside of support center locations and paint color there are no differences.

Evil was confusing it with the 1505 which does in fact have media buttons. the 1501 being a budget notebook lacks the buttons.

I hadn't touched a 1501 yet, and it'd been a while since I'd seen pictures of the 1501. Yes, it does not have media buttons. So it really is just the 131L in a different case.

the MAIN difference between business and consumer computers is the warranty services...when i call dell from work to get a part i usually get it the next day no matter what.. or i get a tech the next day with the part. thats the main difference ive noticed

Flatulatta:

Just a slight misunderstanding there with the service. you'll get the service if u pay for it, regardless of whether it is a business or consumer computer. Latitudes are sold with higher level of service by default, but the same service is available for inspirons also if u choose it at the time of purchase. All levels of service that r available for Latitudes are available for Inspirons as well.

The company where u work must have purchased the necessary warranty or would be under an EPP contract with Dell so that when u order the part,
u get it right away. u can purchase a similar warranty service for ur home computer as well. Call up Dell Sales and check it up.

flash the bios on the inspiron to a latitude and "ta-da!", you are the new proud owner of a latitude.

I think when you call Dell Support if you have a latitude you stay in the USA. But all Dimension and Inspiron calls go to India and the Phillipines.

But Latitudes have better build quality, than the Inspiron line. But i think this system will probally be the same.

In my opinion the Inspiron looks better, but for build quality Latitude.

Thanks to all who replied- the info was very helpful.
I'll probably go with the "business class" Inspiron 1501 w?TL-50, since I prefer durability over bells and whistles.

Thanks,
rb

well Santa made the decision for me. I have a brandy new HP NX6325 RB546UA w/AMD TL-50, 1 GB ram. Only drawback is the 1024x768 screen resolution.

Happy New Year to all!
