Hey all, I got my laptop a bit ago, the e1705, opted out of a tv tuner at the time, but now i'm reconsidering, is there any way to put one in after having your laptop already built?

Thanks

The TV tuner was a USB one that you could get with the system at the time of purchase but you can easily pick better and or cheaper solutions from big sites like newegg or major retailers heck from DELL themselves.

so are there any internal ones?

the one that i got with my 1705 was an external usb. i dont beleive that there are internal tuners for laptops.

the closest to internal you can get on dell laptop as of now, is a pcmcia or pc-express tuner card. but then you will have an unsightly cable sticking out the side of your laptop.

its sweet how some toshiba laptops actually have it built inside the laptop case with connectors in the back.

so pcmcia or pc express will work? or is it pci express?

one more thing, where is that slot on the e1705 that it would go into? and if anyone knows, which are plug and play with media center?

thanks again

the slot is on the right side of the laptop, to the left of the audio jacks. there is a little button to push in, then push in again, and the plastic protector comes out. avermedia makes a mce tv tuner for pcmcia.

im sorry, pcmcia is the older standard. the new one is express card, which is not compatible with pcmcia slots. my 1710 has the express card slot.

this is the only one i know of for the express card: http://www.aver.com/mpd/expressmce.html and is mce certified.

their pcmcia option is this: http://www.aver.com/mpd/cardbusmce.html

what is your slot? e1705 i believe is express card. the first post mentioned e1700 and threw me off...dunno why :P
