Saw this deal at newegg, wondering if this a good deal...for $1300.00

HE*L YES!! I saw that price a few days ago and my jaw dropped. The A8Js, which has a comprable Nvidia 7700 is a full $200 more, and I still can't seem to find any difference between the two. It is an amazing deal. I can't comment on quality, but I'd say go for it.

Since my desktop just went to crap I am looking into something that can play games and I'm close to pulling the trigger on this thing, I wish it had 15" screen (won't really matter in the long run) but if I get it I'll prob just get an external monitor.

you could configure an asus s96j (which is 15.4 inches) for around $1300, the difference between the x1600 and x1700 are minor at best

How much difference is there between the x1700 and the 7700 on the a8js?

the a8jp has the x1700 and is on sale at newegg for $1300
the a8js has the 7700 and ranged from $1470-$1600, depending on who you buy from

i'd wager the 7700 is 25%-33% faster than the x1700

7700 3DMark06 - 2700
x1700 3DMark06 - 1850

Keep in mind that the x1700 is basically an x1600 made to use less power. In short Go7700 for performance, X1700 for temperature and battery life.

eh, do you have links to support your heat/power usage comment?

i would think battery life also depends on the actual battery (watt hours, cells etc...)
