I have been a forum member for a while, but this is my first MAC post. WARNING: IM A MAC MORON

My wife has an old ibook g3 500 with 640RAM that collected dust for the last 2 years. I decided to clean it up and install OSX, which went fine, but I now am curious about performance issues.

My main purpose for this laptop is for music and web browsing. However from what I can tell it has one great flaw: it can't run streaming video from online very well. Youtube specifically is choppy.

Is there anything I can do to increase the performance, or is this machine just too slow? I have read some things saying it is possible to overclock the IBM750FX processor, is my g3 one of those?

Any suggestions to help speed up this system would be appreciated.

Flash video from YouTube is fairly intense on the processor. Combined with the fact that you're running OS X on such an old machine as well... You basically need a new computer to run it better.

I have an 500Mhz G3 iBook, If I want to view something from Youtube I hit the pause button on the player first and let the entire video download first. Playback after that is usually pretty good. Also click the "original size" button second from right on the player, it should also look better. Youtube automatically tries to resize video to maximum size of the player.

I do that with some quicktime videos and WMVs...it's a PITA to wait till they load sometimes but it really improves playback in some cases.
