Try updating the Drivers manually. I got the same error. Dug around and found out the new drivers didn't stick. I updated them manually. And now they seem to run fine. With afew more options, also providing support for digital output device.

I just tried the drivers myself under the RTM version and have zero issues thus far. The subwoofer controls work, and there is also a control panel with some advanced options such as Bass Boost, Virtual surround, etc... Very nice driver set and very stable!

Well.. maybe I celebrated too early

I have been listening to Christmas music now all morning and it seems that every single song 'skips' at some point while playing in WMP11... Its about a 2 second 'stutter' and is very noticeable. Any of you guys that are using this driver having this happen?

Have you tried any other music besides xmas music? Just kidding..

I am beginning to wonder whether or not this is the fault of the soundcard driver or just Windows Media Player 11. For some reason the Library function of WMP is broken, as I cannot add files to it manually. I am currently trying to figure out a way to uninstall WMP and reinstall it, but it doesn't seem that is an option (at least not one that I can find...) This is a pain in the butt to diagnose, thats for sure. I will try to find another good media player in the meantime, and hope MS fixes WMP soon!

Did you try maybe Winamp or something?

Not just yet. I just got the library function to work in WMP11, so I will be testing some other things now. Once I narrow it down, I will be sure to post about it for reference purposes.

Been listening for a bit now and it seems the audio dropouts have disappeared. Kind of odd really, but I suppose I won't complain! One thing I have noticed about this Vista driver... it makes the onboard speakers very LOUD!!! I have had to turn them down a bit from top volume cause they were literally hurting my ears! I like that!

***Looks as though I was wrong.. the skipping is picking back up again. I think I am seeing what is causing the issue now, although not sure whether its the driver or WMP again. The skips start at about the same point in every song, which is just a few moments before moving to the next song. I bet it is skipping while trying to buffer the next song in the list. It happens exactly 20 seconds before the next song is due to begin... perhaps a WMP problem after all?

Are you using the Guru drivers?
Using the Dell drivers that they released (see first post) These are nice drivers, from what I have seen about the feature set and improved volume etc. I am going to try Winamp now to see if it has the buffering issue. I will guarantee its a buffering issue now, if I setup a short playlist it will skip on every song exactly 20 seconds before the next song begins. That is, until it gets to the last song in the list, which plays perfectly all the way through (as there is not a song afterwards to be buffered...)

Ok, Winamp has proven to be very functional under Vista. The skipping problem is part of WMP, as Winamp works flawlessly. I guess that solves the problem for now, so until Microsoft fixes media player - Winamp it is!

Actually meant the video drivers that you were using for vista. I tried the Guru 3D ones and they didn't perform well in WOW.

Experienced the same issues with WMP11. Kinda disapointing actually.

But I must say if they ever get better video drivers for Vista BYE BYE XP. The hole feel of vista to is enjoyble.

Will give WinAmp a try.

I am currently using the 97.46 Mobileforce drivers, and they are running flawlessly for me so far. No problems with lagginess or anything yet. I am done with XP now for sure, Vista Ultimate has won my heart. Winamp works excellent in Vista newfie, you should not have any issues with it.
