Unlocked Nvidia-Dell Video BIOS! Overclock your 17inch notebook Videocards! - Page 6

post #101 of 1404
anyone had tried the 7800 go gtx rom? any problem?
post #102 of 1404
So first I have to thank a lot for the great work of modding the vga-bios.
Contrary to all expectations everything went fine and my 7900GS is still alive

But I have still a lot of questions to the experts her and I hope very much, that most of them can be answered.

For start I only used the 790GSUON.ROM - version with the stock voltage of 1V.
With this bios the core reaches up to 490 Mhz but I have some artefacts in 3DMark 05. So I set it to 470Mhz. Still at this frequenzy I have some yellow dots when I`m testing with the Ati-Tool, but however Ati-Tool reports 0 errors.

The temperature under load peaks at 79 °C That is not one degree more than the maximun ideling Temperature under windows.

My question now: Is this normal for the card, or am I unlucky and got a bad card.

Next question: If I have artefacts.... Does that means that the card is near death? Can artefacts harm the card, or is this only a sign that the card is in need of more juice?

If i would flash to 1.24V....Isn`t that too much for the card. I mean the 7900gtx is also working with 1.24V but isn`t it possible that the 7900GS has for example weaker voltage converters ? Or is the 7900GS structurally identical to the 7900GTX except for having less Pixelpipelines and lower clocks ?

If i go to 1.24V...Are the Rams getting more juice then too or only the core ?

And the last one: The Ram reaches 650Mhz and far above without artefacts, but with a core clock of 470 the 3DMark score decreases with ram clocks of above 600Mhz. Is this normal too ?

@juanlu206
So would it be asked too much to make a Bios with, for example 1.1V to increase the performance but still taking care of the card so ? Or is this not possible ? Imho this could be a happy medium.

And due to the fact that english ist not my native language i cannot guarantee that my post is free of errors

I tried this with the 1.24v memory optimized bios and it works great but peak temp was 90c (singe pipe) and I think that is a little too hot. I lowered the voltages but I don't know if it will break my card or not. So my question is will flashing this bios break my card?

ok well one of the options i figured out is the default rom for the card duh...
ok but whats the differences between optimized memory or not? Will one perform better/let me overclock more?

I flashed the 7800GTX unlocked version and indeed, Everest sees my clock manipulations instantly when I use AtiTool.

I'l start testing with it asap, but so far so good. After a nice fan mod I should be able to get to around 500MHz on the core and 1300 on the mem... hehe...

Use 790GTXUO.ROM It'll work best

Can everyone post what drivers you're all using? I'm crashing with 93.81 MobileForce and I can't hit 600/800 anymore.
post #108 of 1404
I am using XTreme-G MobileForce 92.77 G3 with the 790GSUOV.ROM at 575/775 (had it at 600/815 but backed it down for peace of mind).

Everything is running as it should, Thanks again to all who had a hand in this and the orig GSX bios.

Problem: I have the 92.77 Dell drivers from TweakRUs installed but I'm not getting the classic control panel at all so I can't change clock settings except in ATiTool. How the heck am I supposed to set the clock to apply settings at startup without the classic control panel?!
post #110 of 1404
Right Click Desktop > NVIDIA Control Panel

When it opens the window:

3D Settings > Change Overclocking Configuration

Then click the 'My Own Custom Clock Frequencies'

Once you find the settings you want to keep, make sure you UNCHECK the 'Use these settings only until I restart'

Done and done!

Hi,

I got an answer on this before, but the next question still remains;

Is it wise to use the 7900GTX bios from Juan on a 7900GS, or will it not bring any advantages?

Thanks!

Ah thanks Deceptikon... awesome... everything works great now. Many thanks to you guys... I may not post much but this forum and all your hard work and dedication has really helped out a lot.

Anyone else having issue with the newer drivers, e.g. 93.71 and 97.44? Seems like they won't allow me to overclock and crash when I test changes.

i don't mean to sound ungrateful/annoying but, i'm a geek and I'd kinda like to learn a little bit from this, so could u explain why exactly that one is better than the other one, or what that even means =) thanks
post #115 of 1404
Sorry for the clueless question, but what does 'memory optimized' mean exactly?
post #116 of 1404
haha that wud also be mny question
post #117 of 1404
In regard to my previous post I made a blind boot disk just in case then flashed the lower voltage rom. I got it working with 0.92v for 2d and throttled 3d (which I increased to 300/400 from 200/300) and 1.05v for full 3d. Using this rom I was able to overclock to 575/752 with temps maxing at 87c. If anyone wants to try it download here:
v7900GS.rom

@stuckinasquare3
Memory optimized just means the memory timings are probably higher to allow higher clocks. This is most likely the same reason people can get such high clocks with the GTX bios. (similar to why 533 ram has cas4 latency while 667 ram has cas5 latency)
post #118 of 1404
this memory optimized thingis too vague, the creator hast explained what he did, and timmis arent the problem bith are the same, i checked... so memeory optimized sound like BS to me.... i even though it was the delta offset setting, and that he confused it with memory, but it was not... so far nothing about it, but its unimportant cuz all we needed to know is that the bios can be modified and from there i bet those of us with expirience allready have made their own with this tewak
post #119 of 1404
by they way, is sergiop the creator of this? that explains why he was so reserved in the other thread, but what i cant seem to explain, is why he was keeping this project in the darkness and why is it that it came like to the light like this,.. by pure "luck"....

NVM i see now that juanlu created this, but he has only 5 posts, so my question remains... was it luck...? or something else... he had to be observing around for a while other threads

ok take form the website

VER.2. Solved bug that when AC is unplugged, performance drops down.
If exprience buddys from the forums agree with me i will warn that THIS IS NOT A BUG!!!!!!!!!! its supposed to be like this to save battery life, so noobs, dont use the bios as your permanent bios, as soons as you are able to make your own, plz make one that suits your batter life needs.
