Unlocked Nvidia-Dell Video BIOS! Overclock your 17inch notebook Videocards! - Page 56

1. I think most ppl get around 90C when OCing.
2. The more W your PSU is, the higher you can set your Voltage. So 1.24 on 130W should be fine - I do it with a 90W PSU.
3. I personally think JuanLu's method is perfect, because you actually do not change the speeds in your BIOS. You only unlock your BIOS. So you can then OC in Windows on the Fly - and when you notice you OCd to high, you simple turn it a bit lower in Windows, again in real-time, on the fly. If you OC with a Bios, you have to reboot everytime you need to make changes.

A Q to some ppl:
1) What Core temp. should I have and not go above? 90C, or can I go higher without risk?
2) If I OC my Memory speed more, will the Core temp go up? I wouldn't think so, because it says Core temp after all, not Mem. temp. Because right now I am doing 90C Core temp, and if this is the max I should go for, it means I can't OC the Core anymore; BUT, if I can OC the memory more without the Core temp going up, I can get some more increases in that way.

Well, I tried OCing it more, the maximum Rivatuner would allow me was:
565/760. I ran 3dMark06 and got 5269 points (so thats up from 3664 w/o any OCing). No artifacts at all. The fan went on quicker than normally, and temps were a bit higher, max was 92C compared to max of 87C @ 470/680; but the difference in 3dMark06 is quite big: 4554 (@470/680) compared to 5269 (@565/760). I will run this for a while while playing games and see if my temp in games goes beyond 92C.

When I ran 3dMark06, I would get artifacts & screen flickering - so this wasn't working well. Then I used the 1.24v bios (790gsuov) and I again set it to 470/680. Ran 3dMark06 and no artifacts or screen flickering - so it's working perfectly. -7
i notice that to. my 7900gs run much better with 1.24 volt, (not one single artifact). G71M (go7900gs) is designed for 1.24 volt from start i have never have above 90 C with 600/800 and 1.24 volt, (75-80 C in games....max 85 C in 3dmark06)

Ok, interesting stuff: I kept my videocard OCd to the maximum I can do (565/760), and while playing games, the Core temp. was actually *lower* than when I ran it on 470/680. My guess is that when I OC it to max, the fan stays on basicly always. So it's more noise - but the temp is lower & the 3dMark06 scores are higher. Avg @ this max OC while playing the games was 87C, at the lower OC the Avg was 90/91C.

Ok, latest update: while my laptop was working fine - my 90W PSU wasn't enough, and would simply turn off from time to time :-) (it didn't die, just went off). But I'm sure you can keep the 565/760 settings with a 130W PSU.

I turned it back a bit to 540/740 and got 5125 3dMark06 scores.

Hello guys, I overclocked my 7900gs using the 1.24v bios and it's running at 630/740 stable at the moment on a 130w psu. My question is i've seen lots of ppl running the memory core at 800, but i can't seem to past 740, why is that? everytime i try 750, the computer screen would turn completely red with horizontal lines (meaning the video card crashed, then i have to reboot)... is this really my 7900gs oc limit?

thanks.

Don't over do it. You will end up killing your card.
so should i stay at 630/740 or should i lower that to 600/740?

I get the same results as yours. My RAM won't clock higher than 740. I assume that no cards are alike.

then you must have a rev.1 go7900gs, (only Rev.0 go7900gs who have memory optimized)............ only Rev.0 who can use 800mhz with 1.24 volt, (sorry) - Revision 0 (rev.0): with bios 05.71.22.16.13. - Revision 1 (rev.1): with bios 05.71.22.28.01. wait i minute, do you use 630 mhz on the core ? (i thoght 600mhz was the limit..........is it safe over 600 mhz ?
Rev 1 memory clocks won't go higher than 600.. forget 740.. he must have a bad rev 0 board..
Yes I use 630 for the core, it never crashed, play world of warcraft for hours on that and half an hour of bioshock. i don't know if 630 for core is safe... does anyone know?

my card is rev 0 with the memory optimized... dunno why it cant go over 740 though...

and you use a PA-13 ac adapter...strange, maybee you have a "bad" card or mother board.
lol, u dun mean 'bad' card! u mean 'not so excellent' card... bad makes it sound so... bad... like defective
post #1115 of 1404
Mine runs about the same as yours. But keep i mind that this card is factory-set to 375/507. So 6xx/740 is excellent IMO.

I can set my core as high as 670 mhz without problems... but you better have a dual heat pipe and a good AS5 layer before you attempt that...
alas, my stupid rev 1 memory won't clock higher than 590 without giving me artifacts...

Dual heat pipes ? (only if you order a m1710 with go7900gs you get Dual heat pipes) i have a ordinary 9400 with a ordinary Rev.0 go7900gs (single heat pipe) + Xps 130 W power supply
