Ok, i really hate to be the biggest noob here, but i can't get this to work. I downloaded the ISO image (which was a .rar file), I then downloaded alcohol 120% and burned the .rar file directly to a cd as an ISO image...then i rebooted...booted from disc, it showed a black screen with the little flashing white line for me to type text. I tryed typing the flash i wanted, but nothing would appear and then shortly after, it would boot into Windows normally. I tried it a few more time, then i even tried it with Nero on another disc and I got the same issue.

So, could someone give me such a nooby step-by-step guide on how to do this, a 5 year old could do it? I mean, every detail from start to finish on EXACTLY how to flash my 7900gs with the 7900gtx bios? I want the 1.24v mod and unlocked clocks...and the optimixed memory. To anyone who does this, i will REALLY appreciate it and i'll leav you some rep points. I'm sure if you make a thread and link me to it, you'll get lots of rep points from noobs like me.

THANKS

Here's what I did:

Took the .rar file and used a program (7zip) to extract it to a folder on my desktop. When extracting it, I believe 7zip transmogrifies it into a .iso.

Then, I used nero and burned a data disk using that .iso file. I did not use create a new disc, I used copy disc->burn data disc.

Rebooting the computer, I hit F8 at the appropriate time to choose the CD drive. The computer will load the information on the CD.

This allows you to use the nvflash command to flash the rom you want. Then I just hit ctrl+alt+del to restart the computer, and voila!

Edit: My issue was just finding the files to make the bootable cd.

I got it to work, thanks. I read somewhere that you were not sipposed to extract the downloaded file. But I extracted it and everything worked fine. Thanks a lot.

You can just burn the iso you download straight to a cd or you can extract whichever files and put them on bootable media. No big deal which method you choose but novices prefer the former.

i must realy say that after i bought the 130 W PSU, the laptop have became better.....in some strange way, i have less temp, i never get over 80 C in 3dmark (1.24 v 600/800)....and when i play Bioshock, the temp is allways around 75 C.........

Will this work with the 7900 GTX?
I thought they had a bunch of moded bios's for the different nVidia cards and also 2 different Rev of the 7900GS & 7900 GTX?

Just don't want to fry my card and the first time flashing a laptop card.

Any help greatly apreciated

Hey Y'all, This is a Canadian Laptop Modder. I'm also a noob to overclocking GPUS, I've done a fair share of soldering and FSB modding but nothing in this realm. I've already managed to overclock my T7600 without getting the damn G processor, and now I want to unlock this damned card. I'm also hoping to make a watercooling unit for the laptop as well *crosses fingers* to get this dell xps cranking up to speed.

I was curious of a couple things, does this iso
1) Change voltages as well during the flash

2) Will it work for a 7950 go gtx

3) Any specific VBios Revisions? Mine is 5.71.22.45.06
Driver Version 84.69

PS. I'm also debating using a model aircraft motor to pull air through some new baffles in my 1710 instead of the water thing doesn't work. Good thing I have complete care :P.

And nice to meet you all, I'm a wee bit new to this site. But ocing laptops sounds awesome to me

Blahman's post reads: Uploaded JuanLu's ISO file here: http://files.filefront.com/JLMODrar/.../fileinfo.html And you can use the Wayback machine to see the site as it used to be: http://web.archive.org/web/200707060...jlgm/peng.htmll If you use the 2nd link provided, it will show you the iso's on the image, so you can match up your card to the proper iso. If you card isn't listed and you aren't comfortable using another iso, then don't flash it. Edit: I just reread the JuanLu's site, and there are three iso's for the 7900GTX.

I'm very interested in how you overclocked the T7600 non-G version! To answer your q's: 1. There are altered voltages available in the roms. You have a choice of 1v or 1.32v 2. Yes, there are iso's for the 7950gtx 3. I have not heard of differing card revisions for the 7950, so you'll need more research into that.

You could always run a file compare on the two files matchbox. Use nibitor to extract your rom and then fc it with the rom from the iso. There should only be two bytes of difference. The lock byte and the checksum.

What tools (nvtune, atitool, etc) are people having the most success with oc'ing witihin vista (or does it not matter?). I also can't find a tool to show the temp of my card in vista. I'm using the jl rom to let me overclock without reflashing all the time.

i8kfangui worked when I was using xp pro, but when I load it into vista, i get some error message about reading a kernel.

Would you mind going into baby step detail with me about how to flash this video card? I found the correct unlocked bios, but am unsure as how to check for those two lil bits using my bios to compare? how can you do it? do you use NiBiTor ? And what's 'fc' stand for? Thanks for your help, I'm quite a newbie with this flashing card buisness.
Don't worry about it. Its the right version. Just make sure to make your own backup (it will be the same as any dell 7950 user's backup) before you flash the card.

I'm still having a couple issues...I've checked the two bios sizes and what not and am also fairly confident that it will work. It's becoming more of an issue with the cd process. I somewhat trust doing this by cd (my writer has been iffy since day 1). But after ample amounts of attempts, I've so far failed to make a successful cd bootable, AND with the appropriate files.
I'm gonna try nero once its downloaded but I've tried alot, even using Bart's method and taking the boot image from a virtual floppy :S.
So any advice in this department would be spicy, otherwise I'm gonna attempt doing it by floppy once I 'borrow' an external drive '''Legally''' from futureshop (thank god for small mercies slash refunds)

Appreciate any help I can get, any other precautions? (I'm gonna use cold air to keep it cool and eventually get this little beauty )

The cd should be an iso so you should just be able to burn the iso to a cd via image burning software. I have a guide in my signature regarding a few bootable methods but you might as well try the cd iso first.

Well a little piece of me almost died during the flash, but my god it works. New clocks are 650 / 755, i'm gonna bench it and see how my new cooling solution works, so far so good. Thanks to everyone for your help, specifically zzpulp and topher1556!! REALLY REALLY Appreciated. Hope I get reach your god like statuses some day .
