Thanks for the compliment...but I'm certainly not even in the same league as zz. I've been on this board barely longer than you. But I do love it here!!

I'm also hoping to make a watercooling unit for the laptop as well *crosses fingers* to get this dell xps cranking up to speed. I was curious of a couple things, does this iso 1) Change voltages as well during the flash 2) Will it work for a 7950 go gtx 3) Any specific VBios Revisions? Mine is 5.71.22.45.06 Driver Version 84.69 PS. I'm also debating using a model aircraft motor to pull air through some new baffles in my 1710 instead of the water thing doesn't work. Good thing I have complete care :P. And nice to meet you all, I'm a wee bit new to this site. But ocing laptops sounds awesome to me
How do you managed to overlock the cpu?

umm, me to i would like to know this.

I flashed my card a while ago using the unlocked bios method. I don't remember which bios I used. How can I find it out ? From my Dell's bios ? From NVbitor ?

Hey guys, I've been reading this thread for a while now, and I successfully unlocked my GS bios a few nights ago. I managed to get to 440/610 stable without any overvolting or memory timing mods (I think the revision 1 bioses already have the memory timing modifications from nVidia anyways).

However, I see people getting over 450 core easily on stock voltages, and in my jealousy, I want to squeeze even more power out of my card to compete! Can anyone please explain to me the dangers of overvolting (ie. how does it affect my card's lifespan, is it only because of the temperature increase, or does the enhanced voltage itself somehow degrade the chip)? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I don't think there's much danger in overvolting. I've seen many users routinely use 1.24v and settings of 600/800. Some suggest that as a starting point for the settings!

I personally believe the graphics cards are quite robust. The real danger seems to be in overheating, but I also think the card will throttle itself down?

What are is the best one to use for a 7900gs rev0?

Its in a DELL 9400.

I currently am running the 790GSUON.ROM with stock speeds.

What will be the best .rom and overclock speeds for me to use to get best game performance? without wrecking my laptop due to heat.

Can anyone repost the instructions for the use of these BIOS flashes? I have the REV 1 7900 GS and I am not sure which BIOS file to use when flashing. The Web.Archive link also appears to be down, so if anyone could repost the text of the instructions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Is it me, or does the way back machine link not work anymore? Is there another place to look up the different versions?

Yes the card will throttle itself down when it hits 102deg - but the problem is constant heat while gaming above 90 deg. Over a period of time you may find your memory goes, it seems that the cores are the strong part but the memory is the weakness where there have been a number of failures all due to memory faults. Heat is the enemy so keep it as cool as you can!!!! I ran my for some 6 months at 550/700 @ 1.24V and had no problems but to protect the life span of my laptop I went back to the 1V mod - however with this the max OC is around 460/800 (memory is independent of voltage). On an interesting note Krazypop runs his at 1.05V I think and can OC quite high which seems to be the better option however I lack his experience but there is a link to his method which should be on this site somewhere.

When I had a 7900GS, I ran it at 1v and the core was clocked at 625. I don't know why it worked for me and not for others, but I didn't care

cause you didn't run it at 1.00 volt ^^

?? Last year, I made my own rom using nvbitor, and flashed it at 1.01v. Later this year, I used the new Junalu's unlocked bios method and flashed it at 1v. 2 out of 2.

So confirmed, I can flash 79GTXUNV.rom on my GS?
OK - this is a really nice upgrade! My stock score was 8500 in 3dmark 05. I flashed the 7900gtx bios, installed coolbits, OC'd my card to 612/724 and got a score of 9787. Great improvement!! I'll probably try some higher clocks, but nothing drastic. Would like to get above 10K though...

I ended up losing my card after 6 months, good thing I got that Dell warranty. A co worker just got his 7900GS replaced with a 7950 as well because Dell was out. He is a cert'd dell tech tho, so that may have helped him weasel that out. but just FYI, it is possible.

Hey I seemed to have lowered the core speed from 500 to ~110 by accident last night using ATItool on my 7900GTX. I'm not sure if it stuck or not but it wouldn't let me bump it back up to 500! How do I fix this?

I went into settings and checked "apply clock immediately after moving slider". When I tried to move it up, it actually started sliding down!! I have using 169.09 M6, which most people say cannot be OC'd but I've seen some people do it so I thought I'd try.

Riva Tuner let me bump it up... I moved the slider in increments of 10-15Mhz and then hit apply. Does that really apply it? I then went into ATItool and checked for errors but under current clock settings, then never changed from 500/600.

Ran GPU-z before I left for work and this is what it shows:

Now when I try to use Riva Tuner, the slider bars are not movable, even after I enable them.

nibitor doesn't allow you to change voltages, only labels.

@jmkiang - Downgrade to 169.04. Make sure your BIOS is flashed unlocked. Then try it.

Due to lack of o/c support from latest Forceware releases, I'm thinking of o/c my 7950GTX through a flash.
I wanted to use the unlocked BIOS for my card and edit the stock clocks using NBitor. Am I on the right track ?
