Unlocked Nvidia-Dell Video BIOS! Overclock your 17inch notebook Videocards! - Page 61

Yep. I think so. I did that for a while before I realized the problem was in the drivers.

I would suggest, however, that you downgrade to 169.04 (if you've got XP) and use ATITool, as you can view the changes real-time. Plus, I haven't seen anything better from 169.09 than 169.04 (but that's just me...).

Yesterday I ran Crysis benchmarks comparing 3 different forceware releases and effectively, on our 7xx generation, there is no considerable improvement from 169.04. I'll stay with 169.04 for a while http://www.notebookforums.com/post2805393-290.html

Hello All,

To say that these conversations are over my head is an understatement. I have heard of over clocking but I am chicken. I have an Inspiron E1705 with the nVidia GeForce Go 7800. I am thinking to try and upgrade the video card. I have looked at the service manual and see the work ahead, but cannot find anything but refurbished cards on the Dell web page compatability page. Does anyone have any suggestions for new video cards compatible with my machine. Or should I just go postal and heave this thing out the window. Thanks for any help in advance!!!

Signed the disgruntled simpleton.

BTW, great threads!!! I just wish I had the capacity to follow all thats being discussed.

Card upgrades are much cheaper on Ebay. Be aware of the seller reputation, of course. The upgrades available for your e1705 are : Great upgrade : GeForce Go 7900GTX 512Mb / Quadro FX 2500M 512Mb (they are basically the same card) They should be around 250-300. Best upgrade : GeForce Go 7950GTX 512Mb / Quadro FX 3500M 512Mb (they are basically the same card too) They should be around 400-450. If you're on a budget, 7900GTX / 2500M yield almost the same results as the 7950GTX. As for the upgrade itself, be sure to print all the necessary documentation for a video card upgrade. More info about you system can be found in this great sticky thread : http://www.notebookforums.com/thread205763.html

OK I did this and managed to OC my core to 600MHz. Now it can't OC the mem. It lets me move the slider but when I hit set clocks, it goes back to 600. Any idea why this is happening?
I don't know, actually. However, I don't think your system will be stable at more than 600MHz memory clock until you voltmod your card and get a better PSU.

You probably want a 150W brick (130W works too, though). I'd suggest purchasing it from eBay, as it'll fail anyway (whether you acquire it through Dell or a third party), and the prices are much cheaper.

Also, go into NiBiTor and increase your voltages [I haven't done mine yet, so you probably don't want my woefully incomplete knowledge on the subject), and then flash that BIOS to your card. Once this is done, and you've got the new PSU hooked in, I've heard of values around 600MHz core / 800MHz memory. Happy OC'ing!
Well I have two 130W bricks so I'm good in that sense. I'll try fiddling around with NiBiTor. I think I tried it once and it didn't like my OS (Vistax64). Let me know when you performed the voltmod. I gotta flash another BIOS?? Man, I should just stick to my X360 for gaming

Hey guys it's been a while since I've been on here. Been out of the overclocking/gaming scene for a while and have recently gotten back into it. I've got a e1705 with a 7900GS, rev 0, and I've got a few questions about flashing the BIOS. The link to the guide on the first page of this thread is dead, but I figured I'd give it a try anyway. Basically I can't get the card to actually flash. I get an I/O error stating that it won't/can't flash. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, so any kind of a guide to how to go about flashing would be appreciated.

I need someone to post the actual instructions on how to properly flash these bios. I've already done this once to a different laptop, but now I am trying again on my 1710, except the link on the first post with the instructions is DEAD. So if someone could PLEASE post the exact instructions that were in that dead link, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! I know there were some things that needed to be typed into the command line, but I just can't remember what they were.

Thanks!

Alright - I was able to find the instructions via google. I am posting them here for anyone who needs them and can't get them with the dead link. I take NO responsibility for this, but it DID work for me - twice. Anyway, here's the instructions:

INSTRUCTIONS:
0º Do it under your own responsibility. Dell’s warranty would not take care of an Overclocked card.
1º Burn the image on a CD using a burning program such as Nero.
2º Restart the computer and then you see DELL’s Logo appear press F12 until you see the Boot menu.
3º Choose the option CD/DVD/CD-RW.
4º Type nvflash XXXXXXXX.ROM.
5º Accept the process pressing Y.
6º Restart the computer, you are done.

Also, as the first page says, be VERY careful. You will brick your card if you flash the wrong version on it.

Bricked Quadro FX1500M

Hi all, my first post on this forum is with the message that I bricked my Precision tonight (and thankfully reincarnated it...). It seems that the 1500M also exists in two versions, like the 7900GS. Mine seems to have the newer revision (BIOS 05.71.22.28.03).

And to be sure I've read all of the thread on this issue and after long hesitating thought that it would be safe.....

So watch it!!!

For those who are willing to do some research I've attached the original BIOS....

@Teegunn: Thanks for the guide. That's exactly what I'm looking for. I've succesfully flashed my card and and testing for the best performance/stability clock rates.

Good to hear, Duckhunter. If the proper bios are flashed from Juans mod, everything should work fine. But having the correct instructions always is helpful!
