You can't flash the GTX bios to the GSrev1.

what?
post #1263 of 1404
but i did

I have already stated this...I was gonna make a thread but I find it pointless now as many people are abandoning the 9400.

You can flash a 7900GS Rev0 -> 7900 GTX Rev0
You can flash a 7900GS Rev1 -> 7900 GTX Rev1

I have provided all current Dell Rev's at LV2G. I will post them here after awhile.

Anyway sweet amber, you can flash the card to a GTX but that doesn't get over the fact that the GS rev1 uses lower quality parts than the GS rev0. Therefore, even with the GTX rev1 bios you will not be able to OC your GS rev1 as far as a user that flashed his/her GS rev0 with a GTX rev0.

thats weak.... but why do i get lower scores with this bios? with the gs i got at least 5k....
ps any specific drivers i should be using?

zzpulp - where is this thread you have that shows how to flash a GSrev1 to a GTXrev1?

sweet amber - how about you just stick to an unlocked GS BIOS, and go get yourself a bigger power supply? You can OC farther with one.

Anyway, I have the link to the Rom's in my signature. They are not in bootable form and you will have to put them on bootable media to flash them. I have not included instructions as its pretty straightforward: nvflash -4 -5 -6 [romname].rom . I have links a guide to making bootable media as well as a link to nvflash in my signature.

Signature
Dell Rom's = roms
Bootable recovery = guide to making bootable media/other stuff

You really think this works, zzpulp?

I'll try it tonight, so I hope it does, but it may not.
post #1269 of 1404
Yes, I am quite certain it works. I just can't give you 100% because I don't own either card but I would do it if I had a GS rev1. It appears that using the GTX rom might not yield the increases of the GS rev0 -> GTX rev0 because the GS rev1 uses lower quality parts and that can't be avoided with a different rom.

If anyone needs a bios i have the Stormlifter and Jlmod images on my web space.

Stormlifter Bios Images

JLmod Bios Images

Remember these are for Dell Video Cards Only

These should be up for a while.

Only on a desktop system not on a notebook

I just realized -- my 7950GTX has HORRIBLE clocks compared to everyone else!

The best clock I can possibly get have been 587/650!

I get artifacting at 600/700, let alone these insane 650/800 clocks others are getting... WTF?

You could voltmod your card [1V -> 1.24V] . That'd probably help, but the heat'd be intense.

It's a 7950, so it is already at 1.32v.

I mean the memory clocks really aren't gonna help you except maybe in a game such as source. I'm surprised you can't push your core further. If you can, backup your BIOS (with nibitor) and send it to me. I want to see if there's any chance its another revision. I've never heard of anyone not being able to get 600 on the core.

Nonetheless, you'd be facing minimal gains anyway.

Shnike - Thanks, I didn't actually know that.

Also, I don't really see why you're trying to OC so much. If you're gonna get a few FPS up on average, so what? If you're gonna gain a few points in 3DMark, so what? If the heat's too intense, you could completely destroy your nice beautiful laptop. Now is that a risk you want to take?

Well, the way I play games, I am a quality-lover -- thus I play on the edge of playability. I shoot for averages around 30 fps or so. Therefore, a "few fps" would be most helpful to me. Minimal gains = FTW for me, LOL!

No problem

Also, see the above answer.

Hi all. I have been reading this forum for a while now and was successful in flashing my geforce 7900gs go Rev. 1 using juanlu's mod. I was able to reach clocks of 450/570 with 1V. 3dmark 05 scores were 7344, with which I was very happy with. Today I tried the volt mod 1.24v clocked @ 500/600 but funny enough, my scores dropped to 3435. Overall gaming performance has also decreased. Now this wasnt a drastic overclock. My temperatures also did not differ as much (+3°C). Anybody know why the volt mod led to cutting my 3dmark scores in half? I have an inspiron 9400, core2 7200 @2,0 Ghz, 2Gb RAM, 7900gs Rev.1 and 200Gb HD. Btw. I used the 791GSUNV.ROM. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
