Unlocked Nvidia-Dell Video BIOS! Overclock your 17inch notebook Videocards! - Page 65

Your card can't run those frequencies. It is throttling on you because of this. The temperature factor here is negligible. You are essentially facing minimal gains. Either apply way more voltage or cool your card way more (neither of which is feasible inside a laptop).

If you used the old nvidia control panel and enabled the debug settings in the panel, it would tell you exactly when the card throttled.

well i've been running on gtx rev1 1.24V for some weeks, and what i can tell you is that if i underclock to stock gs 375/500 i get a 1k on 3dmark 06
if i use stock gtx 500/600 i get 3k
if i overclock to 535/625 i get 3,5 to 3.6 k (i got on one run 4K)
so i don't get it :P

What do you mean by my card can't run those frequencies? Many users with the same video card have been able to overclock the geforce 7900gs go normally with the 1.24v voltmod and have comfortably exceeded the clocks I am currently running (450/570 @ 1.0v). Also the 7900GTX rom did not work and I had to blind flash it. How is it that some people here have been successful flashing the Rev.1 with the GTX bios?
Because there's a special Rev1GTX bios. Look at the link to LV2G in zz's sig (it says Dell Rom's)
ZZpulp, the link to Dell rom's is down =( I'll try again later tho...

Im sure there are some rev 1 bioses in the iso's im hosting, just check them out.

All those packs were made at the time when only the rev0 was out. The rev1 GS came out and it was added to the JL set but the rev1 GTX was never apart of any set.

Ok, i'd be glad to add them to the iso's and host them.
That would be fine. If they're not back up at LV2G soon then I'll email them to you or something.

Sounds good.

Alright. So I gave up on the 1.24v mod for Rev.1 and reverted back to the unlocked 1v rom. I was suprised to find that my 3dmark scores and overall gaming performance is STILL at half speed (CoD4 was almost unplayable at med settings). So I restored my system up to a few days ago and everything is back to normal. This leads me to believe that the reason performance sinks after a flash is somehow software related. I am going to try flashing the 1.24 voltmod again and if problems persist, i will restore the system to a point where i was using the 1.0v volt mod with no problems. What do u think?
They're back up Doughy. You can repackage them as a rar or zip in case the self extracting exe scares people off. I have one more rom I have not added to the pack which is the 7800Go. If you want me to send that one to you to add it then just PM me your email.

how did tou manage to go back to the original gs bios with which the laptop came with? I am having the same problem as you are. Unlocked bios rev1 gtx with 1.24V just performs slower than the original gs bios the laptop came with. Did you flsh the original bios? where did you get it from?
I have posted the original bios in my signature sweet amber. Both the stock and unlocked 7900GS rev1 are in the rom set.

I flashed back to the orginal "unlocked" rom I was using before (791GSUNN.ROM). You could also flash back to the original locked rom as I did just to test things out. I used the 791GSNNN.ROM. Like I said, performance was still slow, but got fixed after a system restore. I still think this slower performance is due to some kind of software conflict, but havent had the time to do some tests... Let me know if you ever succeed with overclocking @ 1.24v.

Hi everybody :-)

I have run into a little problem with my 7900 GSX (I flashed it to clock at 600 / 800 without problems). It perfroms great but if I use Vista and play Crysis, I can clearly see decreasing performance.
When the game plays smoothly in the beginning, the FPS go down to unplayable rates some time later.
If I use the standard benchmark, it states that every time it reruns, the performance decreases.

Has anyone of you had a comparable problem? And if it was solved, how did you solve it?

I installed XP on a different hard drive to see if it performs as bad as Vista but somehow the framerates seem much more stable (seem - I haven't run a benchmark yet...).

//Edit:
I have just run the benchmark (GPU) and the results are in ;-)

So it seems, that XP does also suffer a serious decrease in performance after some time.

Could it be possible that the standard 90 Watt power supply doesn't provide enough power? Should I switch to a 130 Watt power supply?

Thanks a lot in advance

What are your gpu temps? it sounds like it may be throttling back due to heat.
Thanks for answering :-)

The last time I checked temps (under Vista, using RivaTuner) it went up quickly to about 90° Celsius and stayed in those regions (went back and forth between 92°C and 91°C, sometimes reached a maximum of 93°C). But the performance goes down after some time - when the decrease gets bigger it has been running on those temps for quite some time. Therefore I'm not quite sure if it is temp related because wouldn't it clock down immediately if it reaches critical temps?

I've just bought a power supply capable of delivering 120 Watt (according to the packing) and I mean that the framerates are more stable => performance decrease isn't that great (although that could also be a Placeboeffect...). I ran a benchmark in Crysis (after having played some other performance hogs) and got
these numbers:

==============================================================
TimeDemo Play Started , (Total Frames: 2000, Recorded Time: 111.86s)
!TimeDemo Run 0 Finished.
Play Time: 174.60s, Average FPS: 11.45
Min FPS: 4.47 at frame 258, Max FPS: 19.42 at frame 977
Average Tri/Sec: 11154200, Tri/Frame: 973772
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: 0.94
!TimeDemo Run 1 Finished.
Play Time: 158.41s, Average FPS: 12.63
Min FPS: 4.37 at frame 1795, Max FPS: 20.25 at frame 988
Average Tri/Sec: 12430620, Tri/Frame: 984578
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: 0.93
!TimeDemo Run 2 Finished.
Play Time: 181.13s, Average FPS: 11.04
Min FPS: 4.37 at frame 1795, Max FPS: 20.25 at frame 988
Average Tri/Sec: 10877658, Tri/Frame: 985147
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: 0.93
!TimeDemo Run 3 Finished.
Play Time: 186.41s, Average FPS: 10.73
Min FPS: 4.37 at frame 1795, Max FPS: 20.25 at frame 988
Average Tri/Sec: 10562714, Tri/Frame: 984520
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: 0.93
TimeDemo Play Ended, (4 Runs Performed)
==============================================================

Therefore, it didn't start as smooth as the above benchmark (where I booted the PC and immediately ran the benchmark) but ended up in a higher FPS-region and didn't drop that low.

But to get back to the temperatures, I know that I8kfangui should be pretty reliable, but I remember something about having to set an offset of something for it to read the temperatures correctly...
Would anyone please be kind and tell me what offset should be set to what value?

Thanks a lot for your help
FrozenLord

Are you voltmodded? If so, you need a bigger PSU.

And I8k needs an 8*C offset.
My laptop is currently running at a 120 Watt power supply. It's third-party so it told me that it doesn't recharge the battery... Is it true? And if so, how do I get it to still recharge the battery?

Yes, my video card is voltmodded.
