Unlocked Nvidia-Dell Video BIOS! Overclock your 17inch notebook Videocards! - Page 30

Thumbdrive worked like a champ! I used the bios someone here had posted and she booted right up! The cd boot disks didn't work including reusing Juan's, I think my timing was off. Thanks everyone.

OK, I apologize if this has been asked and aswered, and yes, I did several searches in this thread (which has grown).

I'm running an e1705 w/ a 7900GS w/ unlocked bios and am trying out Vista on my extra HD. I've installed the Dell VGA drivers from their site, but have not been able to overclock (no sliders anywhere). Am I going to have to just do a bios update and raise the clocks that way, or is there some way I can adjust my clock speed within Windows Vista via another driver/app/tweak?

Thanks!

It's even more sad that you don't know that FSB (and thus the CPU) can be overclocked with clockgen. And it's not Dell that locks the multiplier, it's Intel.

nVidia nTune works in Vista...I am using it now...

get it here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/sysutility.html

but this will only work once the BIOS has been flashed to the unlocked one.

fangui works under vista

I have reflashed jaun's GPU rom and reloaded 100.59 and ntune

I can move the sliders now but I can't increase the clocks. Doing detect optimal just lowers the memory clock. Trying any value of either and I get a test fail

Any ideas?

I have the test failed thing happen aswell in vista with juans flash and 100 series drivers. I have even tried the 90 series drivers. With those though my screen goes black and comp locks up needing reboot. So for now I have just flashed the clocks to the bios instead. Also using the 100.59 drivers while I wait for a new version of Ntune and some newer drivers.

So have we determined that flashing a 7900 GS with a 7900 GTX bios will unlock the extra pipelines and shaders? Is there a benefit for getting a real 7900GTX? I have a T7600 and 7900GS flashed with the optimized GTX bios running at 600/800 and have some framerate issues in Company of Heroes at 1900x1200 and was trying to decide if the 7900GTX's extra 256MB RAM would help at all. Thanks.

The GTX bios will not unlock the extra pipelines on the GS. At 1900x1200 the extra 256MB will make a difference.

I use this as it gives a closer indicator as to when the artifacts will actually be seen in game. If your card starts to artifact when on compatibility mode, you know your clock speeds are too high.
nees help here guys. i gone try to OC higher with atitool 0.26 (again). last time i got strange artifacts very early and with low clocks, did something wrong. B.K. wrote that i gone set "for more compatible scanning method". whish one is that ? and in 0.26 its 3 differents sliders; 2D, low 3D, high 3D. is it only "high 3D" i change to OC ? can i have rivatuner installed at the same time like atitool ? (or will they crash) and please where can i find kraziepops tutorial with pictures. thanks

Thanks for the reply, this was really frustrating me. Its great to have it confirmed by another user

I'll probably just stick with standard clocks until there is a work around / upgrade to Juan's unlocked bios for Vista unless gaming is noticably slower, as the old flash GPU method gives me much less battery life

Its funny both the stock dell vista and these laptopvideo2go 100.59 give similar 3dmark6 results, just over 3700

HELP....after reading about everyones success with this flash, i decided to jump in and try it....i have an E1705 with a 7900GS rev.1 i flashed it with the 790GSUNV.rom and rebooted but now have a completely blank LCD..any help will be greatly appreciated...Thanks.
same thing happened to me, also did a blind flash and used the file listed below, and seems like it took care of the problem..thanks guys.....whew was a little worried for a few mins. my wife gave me odd looks while i was shouting a few choice words LOL.
lmao there should be a thread about odd, funny and neat consequences when modding the laptops.
There is a misprint on Juan's guide. For rev 1 cards you need to type 791GSUNV.ROM, not 790GSUNV.ROM. This works fine...no black screen.

What happens with vista? (Probably it's due to the drivers...)

Juan,

I have tried both the dell stock vista drivers for the 7800GTX and the laptopvideo2go 100.59 drivers, with Nvidia Ntune installed

I can move the sliders to set an overclock but they cannot be set, it fails every test. The same overclock in XP works ok

If its the drivers are we (7800gtx owners) just out of luck?

Cheers

Sorry ZX81, be patient with Vista's drivers.
