Unlocked Nvidia-Dell Video BIOS! Overclock your 17inch notebook Videocards! - Page 4

Amazing what you can miss in the course of a week...nice to see us moving foward though...Although I think I may be too addicted to flashing to stop now...Theres just something about the potential to break my computer that makes it so exhilarating

Excellent work!! I will definitely be flashing to this BIOS after the holidays. Can't wait to OC my card without all the flashing crap!!

Cool, it worked great (79GTXUOV.rom).

I have been running 600/720 for many weeks with no probs, but now I'm at the "optimal detected" 591/784.

3dmark2006 benchmark didn't change but temps are good and seems stable although I admit I had a single blue screen for some odd reason. I will keep an eye out next few days for any issues that will let me know I've gone too far.

One really nice side effect is even with the increased clocks I have no more artifacts in ATI tool, granted I only ran it for a few minutes but before I was getting errors every few seconds. I would guess this has something to do with better memory timings.

Aw... my poor lil' old M170 wants to be free too! Set it's 7800GTX freeJuan, please!

Merry Christmas.

i need a 7900GTX to 7950GTX Bios

Now THAT's a Christmas present!

Edit: At the risk of sounding stupid and a little scared perhaps, did you mod the original 7800GTX bios this quickly or just change a 9 into an 8?
I mean, people have wanted this for SO VERY LONG and you did it like within 2 hours of my plee. (or is it plea? I think it's plea, ok, read plea and not plee, okee? I mean okay (getting all giddy in anticipation) )

now THAT's a realy nice present Juanlu, thank you very much!

i flashed the 795gtxun.rom and it works like a charm. atitool is just dectecting the optimal frequencys

this cool new feature let me reconsider my decision to let the m1710 reuptake from dell...
hmmm, i think i should think one more night about this!

nether the less, you did the community a great job! thumbs up

I vote sticky
I second the sticky.

Also, is anyone elses 7900GS idling lower with the new clocks? Because even after heavy over clocking mine dropped about 5-7C.
I third the sticky! (can I say that? 'third the sticky'? ah forget it).

I hope Juan will continue this endeavour until the next gen graphics cards at least! Tijgerts wants a free 8800GTX in his future M1710! (well, free of clock locks... but just plain free would do too)
sticky is a good option! however im not getting improvements on battery, cannot watch a movie yet...

Amazing, simply amazing! Sent some money your way, Juan. Everything worked perfect first type... picked up 7 fps in Doom3 Time Demos to put me over the top of the friend I am competing with. He is rather distressed to be beaten, at this moment, by a laptop!

Thanks to you Amorget for your donation.

Ho ho hooo... Merry Xmas for all!!

Nice work Juan! Hey, how exactly did you find what bit you had to modify in order to unlock the bios?
Yeah, tell us what you did and how and why and such!
Well, I figured out what he did. He went to the performance table entries and changed a value... from 2 to A. But that's incredibly risky to find by accident. I want to know the method behind the maddness :P
post #79 of 1404
Well this help the 7900 GTX work in the M170??????
That would be the next step... to make a M170 recognize the 7900GTX. He'd either have to make the 7900GTX look like a 7800GTX so the stock laptop bios will accept it, or he has to hack the laptop bios which is a whole different kettle of fish.

My bet would be on changing certain values in the 7900GTX bios that would perhaps mimmick a 7800GTX while retaining the 7900GTX bios's functionality.

I would DEFINATELY be crazy enough to start soldering on the mobo to get the 7900GTX working
