Like I said I did point you and ganzo (if you read the damn thread, you would know) to the right direction. This ain't no dog on tech support forum, but people do actually help out by giving you where to look. Don't expect people to friggin spoon feed you like a baby, and give a reading a try.

You can use the regular unlocked 7800go bios on it or you can use the unlocked 7800GTX bios on it...doesnt matter Not besides using the -4 -5 -6 flags to flash the bios that is

Hi!

First of all I like to show you my appreciation for this great thread - good work! (especially mr juan!)

But as you can see, this is my first reply in this forum due so a problem with my videocard which is not yet given attention to.

I'm pretty sure you can help me, so here's my little "performanceproblem":

How is it possible to other people so get such highscores in 3dMark05/06?
I'm using the DELL Inspiron 9400 with the 256 MB go 7900 GS rev 0 successfully modded with the "790GSUOV.ROM"-BIOS and running at 550/800.

With Forceware 92.77 (default settings) I get the following 3DMark results under XP:

3DMark03 ~ 17000 (good result in my eyes regarding the 12000 points without the modification)
3DMark05 ~ 6000 !!!

I read that the highscore with an overclocked go 7900 gs is above 9000!
So why can't I score? Is it due to the cpu-tests in 3DMark05 or what?

Please give me advice! Thanx.
6000 is pretty low but without knowing what your specs are like we couldnt tell you. Where did you get the driver from by the way?
sorry, what do you mean with "specs"? I'm from germany, so...

the driver is originally from dell, but i found it on http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...howtopic=12177

strangely the official dell drivers are the only ones allowing rivatuner to set custom clocks. every other (newer) driver I tried from laptopvideo2go are not working correctly in this way that the standard clocks 375/550 are set automatically every time I try to apply my custom clocks 550/800 in rivatuner 2.01. only the older dell releases work well, but the other way round with rivatuner 2.0, the version before the current release.

its strange, i dunno...

By "specs" he means specifications which again just means parts unique to your computer....there's no need to list them all as well all know that you have mini-pcie, etc. An example of my specs would be:
XPS2/6800 ultra/WUXGA/2 GB RAM/60 GB 7200 RPM HD/2.0 ghz pentium m/Ubuntu
where I have chosen to list the order as system type/videocard/screen/memory/hard drive/processor/operating system for no particular reason. There are other specs you could list but these are the essentials and pretty much all we need to know here to assist you.
Ahh right, so here we go:

Inspiron 9400/E1705 Bios Rev A08 - Core 2 Duo T7200 2Ghz - Geforce Go 7900 GS - 2GB 667 DDR2 - WXGA+ 1920x1200 - 120GB 5400Rpm HDD - WinXP Pro SP2

Is it perhaps possible that my cpu is running only @1Ghz? I8KFanGUI shows 2Ghz, but on the other side cpu-z and the bios interface show only 1Ghz (166x6)!! Speedstepping is disabled (set in bios & i choose the "desktop" energy sheme in windows).

I believe that there is something terribly wrong...
OH MY GOD, I CAN'T GET IT!!!!!!!!!!

ok guys, here is the solution:

i had speedstep disabled in bios and the cpu "stayed" in the 1ghz-state in order to save power. therefore there was never the chance to go faster!!
i was always wandering why my cpu-temperature has never been above 45°C...

now i ENABLED speedstep and choose per tool the maxium performance mode, so the clocks were locked at 2 ghz.

et voilà! 8767 point in 3Dmark05

i'm so glad i found the solution! best greetings from germany!

I am having trouble getting overclocking to work, specifically with ATI-Tool .27b.

I have flashed 3 times now to be certain i was flashing the right file for my card (790GSUOV.ROM). Still, whenever i try to adjust clock frequencies in ATI-tool, the click right back to defaults. I cannot even get it above my default frequencies. I have tried rivatuner as well, but even though it lets me move the sliders and apply the settings, its quite obvious both from the readout in system monitors (showing the default frequency still active) and from 3dmark tests that the clock frequncy adjustments are not taking effect.

I have tried various drivers, from the low 80's on up through the latest 160's, and still, I can not get it to overclock. Is there something I am missing? Am I doing something wrong?

( e1705, WinXP x64)

Thanks.

Welll that would of unlocked the bios so you could overclock, are you positive you got the bios flashed? Windows will of found new hardware if it got flashed correctly. As soon as i flashed mine i was able to overclock it.
i am 95% sure. i downloaded the ISO linked in the first post and followed the instructions. the only way it wouldnt be flashed is if the iso roms were not proper.

By accident, I had the same problem under XP32.

It occured with Forceware 94.24 and 160.01 or in short, with all drivers with a custom .inf. The only chance I got to get overclockingtools running was to install official release drivers with 7900gs originally supported (that were in my case 84.73 and 92.77). These drivers are available through DELL and are WHQL-certified.

I guess that some custom infs are not working correctly although being able to install. Some of the mobile features only work on official infs, like "mobile power mizer" and "overclocking" (these menu items are not shown in the nvidia control panel if having installed an modded driver).

So here's my advice: Try the last official DELL release driver 84.69 though it isn't up to date and use RivaTuner 2.0 Final Release (NOT 2.01! It didn't worked on my system with older drivers as well). Be sure you uninstall all drivers correctly before reinstalling (that's important it you want so use older drivers than the installed):

- uninstall drivers by using the windows uninstaller
- do NOT reboot yet
- remove VGA device from device manager (if it isn't removed yet)
- one more time do NOT reboot yet
- browse to C:\Windows and click search
- type "nv*.*" and start searching; be sure you search both system- and hidden files
- delete every file found (exerpt the one which are still in use)
- reboot
- new device found --> click cancel
- repeat point 6 so you can delete every nv-file found
- unpack & install the new driver!
- reboot

So far, so good. Now install RivaTuner 2.0FR and launch it:

- ensure RivaTuner starts at every boot (settings --> run at window startup)
- go to "poweruser"
- go to "RivaTuner/Overclocking/Global"
- set 1 to "Disable Clock Test" and 150 to "MaxClockLimit"
- browse to "system tweaks", click "enable overclocking" and "detect now"
- choose your clocks for "performance 3D" and apply "apply overclocking at windows startup"

I hope I could help you! Best regards!

1. if you use XP. use this gpu driver with modded inf (all you ever need). then just OC directley with the driver. (stock drivers allways works best to Dells laptops). i use this driver myself, works awesome.... http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...showtopic=9944 2. if you want to make 2 different profiles (one for OC and one for non-OC). use Rivatuner. http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163 its works really good. edit. if you use Vista, do the steps, but use this gpu-driver (with modded inf). http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...showtopic=8913

Hey guys, i really appreciate the help. Just one problem. I cannot find an official dell driver for Windows XP x64. I am running 64bit windows, and thus need a 64bit driver.

I was able to find a 64bit dell driver, but it was for desktops only, not laptops.
