Unlocked Nvidia-Dell Video BIOS! Overclock your 17inch notebook Videocards! - Page 45

I can't get my 1500M to go above 430mhz core via Nvtune. It fails the GPU test and it BSOD's on reboot(IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_ZERO, I think) if I go above 430. Is that normal? Yes, it is flashed with the 1500MUOV rom.

If you want a higher clock you're going to have to add voltage...the best way to do this is just to use the 7900gtx bios as I'm pretty sure its compatible with your card (unless 1500's come in different rev's as well)
Yeah, when you unlock the card, you need to just make sure that you have a driver that will allow you to OC...Personally, I have only found one driver that will not let me OC but I dont typically install many different drivers. Anyway, I think all this hubbub over unlocked cards is a little much now...I mean its really only useful if you play many different games that artifact at different clocks, games that need different amount of gpu processing and you want to keep temps to the lowest (say you're playing cod2-nice graphics and cod1-mild graphics), or you are finding your max clock...
Anyway, I know the max clock of my gpu and I have changed the bit to unlock the card as well as set my default 3d to be my highest stable overclock via the bios...If I dont quite need as much power in 3d mode then I can downclock it but I never think about that typically

The 1500UOV adds voltage but I'll try the GTX bios. I suspect that NTune is causing BSOD's even at stock, because when I don't have it installed, no BSOD.Booting into safe mode and rebooting fixes the BSOD when I have the card overclocked, I suspect that safe mode resets the clocks. And using last good fixes the BSOD in stock, but Ntune is not in the Nvidia control panel. I'm pretty sure that there is only one rev of the 1500M.

yeah...I was about 97% sure as well but I didnt want anyone new posting in my thread about blind flashing because of me

Thankfully, nvidia only made one rev of the 1500m or else I'd be screwed becasue I can't spell.

Got my e1705 last week; rev 1 7900 gs;

running stable at 594-631/540@1.1v (shader core-geometry core as I used a delta of 40) though my memory has artifacts as low as 545 :/.

On the other hand stress testing it right now (Orthos + ATITool) at 1.06v, same clock/mem settings. The weird thing is, even if I bump it to 1.24v, I can only get to 615 stable. Maybe it's an issue with 90w power supply or single pipe (1.24 Atitool load temps get to 90c+; 1.1 gets to mid to low 80s).

Love the card and the information on this forum

EDIT: Bah, seems atitool is no longer the best stress testing device. 1.1v which worked for over 16 hours stable on scan artifacts w/ orthos blend running occasionally causes video driver resets in vista. Testing 1.14v now with games :/

ya know I have a rev 0 card and im stuck at 15 as well.
Yeah, I don't know too much about the delta clock as I think it started with the 7800 series and I only have a 6800u

I have a rev. 0 7900 GS and tried flashing the 790GTXUO.ROM and it gave me a GPU mismatch error. It wouldnt let me flash the GTX BIOS. I don't get it.

Isnt that the whole point?

nvflash -4 -5 -6 [romname].rom

Got it. I flashed 790GTXUO.Rom but my clocks are at like 500/600. Aren't they supposed to be 500/1200?! And my old driver wouldn't work once i flashed, so i installed the nVidia stock drivers. Is this why my clocks are so low? And which driver should I get, since the stock drivers suck. Thanks.

Its ddr memory, its running at 1200Mhz effective (600x2=1200).
The driver just accesses the bios settings and provides an interface for the OS to perform functions with the card. So, if you want higher clocks you will have to increase them yourself via the nvidia control panel or atitool or whatever method you prefer

Anybody else have trouble overclocking using the 100-series drivers?
Neither 160.xx nor 158.xx will let me overclock even with atitool.

Ed: This is in XP, btw

This is my first post on Notebook Forums so bear with me here. I have never overclocked anything but I have been reading about this subject for several days and I think I understannd the theory. I have ordered an E1705 T7200 with the 7900gs 2gigs ram 667mhz from 100 gig sata 5400, wuxga. I plan to upgrade the hard drive to a 7200rpm later. My question is when you flash the GTX bios to the GS card do you get the increased Memory Bandwith, Fill Rate and Vertices per Second common to the GTX or do these attributes have nothing to do with the bios and are generated by the hardware. Like I said Im no modder or overclocker or developer so if this is a stupid question a little slack is really appreciated. Thanks Guys.

since its a new laptop i guess it will be a rev1 card. which you cant flash with a gtx bios. you can use the juanlu flash mod only for rev1 card.

flashing the bios will unlock the card for overclocking. before you wont be able to overclock your card but with flashing you can increase the core and memory of your gpu a lot more. some bios also increase the voltage which helps more with overclocking.

only with flashing my 7900gs went from 375/500 to 590/635.

Since you're in XP I'd recommend the 90 series drivers
post #899 of 1404
I recommend 94.20's or 94.22 had no problems with either.
yep, 97.92 worked for me, thanks.

Btw, does the old gsx mod work with the newer drivers?
