Unlocked Nvidia-Dell Video BIOS! Overclock your 17inch notebook Videocards! - Page 47

Only times I saw those errors from ATITool were when I updated my drivers. It did away after I defragged, and reboot though. Try different driver, defrag, and see what happens, or just use Rivaturner instead.

Here is what happens. 1. I burned the disc I was told to burn, I confirmed it in another laptop, it is bootable and works great. 2. I put it in my laptop and power off, then power on. 3. the power light comes on, then the cd usage and the HD usage lights come on, the hd light goes away after two seconds and the cd continues to spin for a few more seconds. 4. at this point I used to be able to press f12 (or down enter on my other cd) and get it to read the cd some more, and I knew a few commands that would force the cd to spin up, that is no longer the case, it WON'T boot from the cd. 5. also the lcd is not getting brighter like it used to, the lcd is getting NO signal, its not making a beep when I hold down all the keys, the caps lock light won't come on. I reset the bios after all this, and it still won't work, can someone tell me exactly the order to press to get into the bios, force it to boot from ONLY cd, and then restart? even scarier is that without the cd in, it should boot to windows right? it wont!! it won't boot at all. Now the very very helpfull people at dell are sending me a new motherboard and video card ( I know it was my fault, but I had the computer an HOUR so I'm taking advantage) any ideas what to do guys?
I think your in process of bricking your GPU. Only person that can save you is zzpulp. Calm down, and ask him for help.

Update:
Same thing happens when using a CDR. F12. Boot from Cd. A cursor appears momentarility but I can't type anything. Not even a teeny weeny n. Then boots to WIndows.

Using Gen 2 bios A05. Total suckage. :/

dissembled, on windows, browse to the cd you burned. Do you see the files in there? My only guess is you burned the CD wrong. I think I burned about 7 CD's the first time I tried to burn a ISO file.
Most likely, I didn't burn something to the CD. I just burned the ISO file. Do I have to add more files to make it bootable? I have no clue.

If you can't browse your CD files in DOS, you didn't burn it right. I think I used trial NERO when I burned mine ages ago, so can't help you how to burn it. All I remember is I read crap loads of threads to get it right though lol. (and bunch of blank CD's)

This blows. And CDRws can never be used as boot up disks? MEH!!!!!!
Yeah maybe try a CD-R. In Nero u must go File/Burn Image then search for the file. In CDBurnerXP (freeware) select File/'Write Disc from ISO file'.

Also make sure you select 'Finalise Disc' before burning.
I'll try that. Thanks for the freeware recommendation. And here I was thinking Windows Explorer was sufficient enough.

It worked. Thank God for the helpful people in this forum. And CDBURNERXP!

wtf are you talking about?? I boot from cd/rw all the times.. I have installed on them Acronis True Image and Disk Director, as well as my XP install cd... they work perfectly every time..
agreed, cd/rw's can be boot discs.

Cd/rw's are more picky though, and I have had issues with having windows install all the way while using them, I would just recomend using high quality discs, and burning at a bit less than your drives maximum.

hellstrider189 - Sounds like a driver issue as i depend on sleep mode and i currently use a modified Bios. What version drivers are you using and which windows?

Bajabum - ATITool is flaky but its a semi reliable tool in vista since we cant use any kind of coolbits registry tweaks. Try a newer set of drivers such as the 158.xx series from Nvidia as these work quite well you should be able to find them at www.laptopvideo2go.com do NOT under ANY circumstance use a 16x.xx driver.

Thanks for your reply man. I use Xtreme G drivers, 97.92. Windows XP MCE. I've had this problem with different sets of cards and drivers. I even asked about it on this post somewhere, no answers. Any ideas?
No one said you cannot use cd-rw's as bootdisks...its just cd-r's are more reliable

For instance, feisty would not install off a cd-rw

Zzpult, for some reason my GPU is always at 3d clock settings. I've used NVitor and found out the clock settings were different per each category (2d/Throttle/3d). However, upon using Rivatuner, I've realized that I"m currently at 3d clock settings. I'm only browsing right now.

I haven't edited ANY of the clock settings yet and 'm using your edited INF file.

Any suggestions? THanks.

Well, I decided to go through with the overclocking, and I'm loving it. At First I flashed with the 790GSUON.ROM, which is the 1v one. I played around with 3dmark 06 and peaked at around 4500 (before I started getting artifacts with ATItool). The good thing though was I had absolutly no increase in temps. While good, I wanted a little more power out of my card, so I flashed with the 790GSUOV.ROM (1.24v). I once again played around with 3dmark 06 and ended up with a high score of 5680 at 580/780 (I think, I'm at work so I can't check exactly) with no artifacts. Temps peaked at around 80c. I even still had more room to play with, but it was already 3am so I called it a night. So my card went from 3820 in 3dmark 06 to 5680, and it seems to be very stable (I let ati tool run for about an hour this morning with no errors) Thank you Juan, I'll be hitting that donate buttoin sometime soon.

While I seldom am the guy to hate on people asking questions, I think when it comes to bios flashing, overvolting, and overclocking your spanking new mobile card and voiding the warranty at the same time, you really should spend a couple hours reading the thread unless you're already an expert.

All I can say is to try some different drivers. I cant remember exactly what driver inf I changed but I do recall that it wasnt a popular one. I think some of the drivers recommended here are 84.25 and 87.25 for the ultra so drop me a pm or reply and I can try them out before I give it to you.

(type the right flash); nvflash 791gsunv.rom___________(Rev.1) 5. press enter 6. press Y ___________(wait 20 sek, to be sure the flash has been updated) 7. restart the computer____________ (manual) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- edit. if you dont succeed, do it one more time (cant get any worse, he he), sometimes this 3-4 sek after you start your computer can be 4-5 sek or 2-3 sek. just do it until you succeed. edit again. at step 4, you can also flash to your original VBIOS. for Rev.1 its; nvflash 791gsnnn.rom, can sometimes works better. then reflash to your overclock flash.

Quick question

I own an M90 with a 2500M.
Actually I don't care about overlocking the card, but I would like to undervolt it to make it cooler.
Reading the previous pages of the thread it's not clear to me if this card (basically a 7900gtx) has only two voltages (1 and 1.24) or not.
I was reading of two different positions about this topic.
Do you have any news on that?

Thanks
Stefano
