Hello Notebookforums sir's and ma'ams.

First post here and a make it or break it post at the same time.

So I'm trying to make a huge choice here, I'm looking for a gaming laptop, and cheap is my middle name.

I'm trying to decide between 3 lappy's.

Alienware seems to be the highest price and the cheapest is widow PC leaving m-tech right in the middle.

Also if anyone knows of any other companies I should look at let me know.
And if you need specs to mull over here you go.. Thanks for any help
-Jon

So I take it you want to buy a 17 inch gaming laptop and your budget is $2500 or less.

The alienware you selected is a horrible choice, as you just missed the deal last week for a $400 upgrade for dual GPUs. The m-tech and the widowpc are both the clevo m-570u. They are both fine companies but they're a bit on the expensive side.

You can configure one cheaper at the following resellers
www.rjtech.com (m570u)
www.hypersonic-pc.com (cx7)
www.flawlesscomputers.com (m570u)
www.powernotebooks.com (5670)

Doesn't alienware also use the clevo base and just dress up their notebooks.
I'm very aware I missed the free sli upgrade in fact I have the invoice still in my e-mail..

When I called them on the 20th to place the order they said that the price had gone up on my quote of about 400 dollars.. I laughed and hung up, I was furious to say the least.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

yes alienware uses clevos, and marks them up, but they don't have one of the better models, the m570u

i think you should check out the links i listed instead of the one DarqHelmet listed, as sager has a horrible reseller rating.

there's also dell, m1710, m90, and e1705, the first 2 are pretty expensive unless you manage to get a coupon(they're rare for those) and that latter one is one of the best deals around with a coupon (that line has coupons every week), but the e1705 has a bit slower video card. But you can get the m1710 and m90 for a cheap price at the outlet

and there's a toshiba laptop, with the 7900gtx, but it's fairly expensive.

the websites i linked earlier give you the best bang for the buck for high end systems, you might find a better deal on the outlet but it may take a while before one shows up

just call a few of the clevo resellers up, i know flawless has great phone support and they'll call back within an hour if they miss your call

There all Sagers why would I pay a middle man when I can get one right from Sager. Reseller Rating isn't everything. Look at Voodoo and then read the (H)ard review:

Sager is more expensive than some of the middle man, and you can get the middle man to help you when sager is being stubborn.

You know there's also a [H]ard review of pctorque? And besides i didn't list voodoo did I?

I have flawless giving me a quote on one of their systems with custom paint. I'm just wondering what they'll quote me on and how good my laptop would look.

I'm thinking of taking a chance and spending a little extra and swinging for an SLI enabled alienware m9700
post #13 of 44
why?

you missed the deal for the free SLI upgrade ($400 value)

and 2 7900gs in SLI are a bit slower than 1 7950gtx

7950gtx 5214 3dmark06
vs
7900gs SLI 5000 3dmark06

Alright so i just purchased the Monstruo-m S400 for $2169.00 free shipping and 3 year luxury warrant ..

I kept thinking and thinking, that has to be the best deal i've seen in the 2 weeks i've been beating my head over trying to find a good lower priced gaming laptop. And the warranty; can't beat 3 years.
Thanks for everyones help, i'll put a review up asap.

I was on the phone with customer service when the site went down..
Trying to look at a configuration on their site while a rep was on the phone.
Talk about embarrassed.
i checked it out yesterday, the prices were about average, but their layout was clean

it was one of the few resellers that offer wxga resolution on the m570u
