Hi well I have a new dv2021us and trying to configure the webcam to take still pictures at 1.3 megapixel but i'm able only to take at 640x480 (VGA) and is advertised as 1.3megapixel so i must be able to take at 1280 x 960 .. I was chating with HP and damn !! that guy don't know what the hell i'm talking about

Jacob: YOu can use the resolution as 640x480.
Carlos Perez: Yeah.. but i want to use a better resolution.
Jacob: That is the maximum resolution you can use in the Notebook.
Carlos Perez: So then why is advertised as 1.3 mp
Jacob: Pixels is different from the resoltion.
Jacob: The cameres resolution is 640x480 where as the pixel size is 1.3mp
Carlos Perez: uhm i understand that, but a 1.3 megapixel camera is able to take pictures 1280 x 960
Carlos Perez: that would give you a total of 1228800 pixels same as 1.3 megapixel
Carlos Perez: A picture taken at 640x480 is a VGA Camera
Jacob: Yes, as per the product specifications the property depends on other factors, such as light etc.
Carlos Perez: Uhmm that is not a factor. That would matter only on the quality of the taken picture.
Jacob: Yes, that I mean.
Carlos Perez: Ok.. but i want to take pictures at 1280x 960 so I can take advantages of the 1.3 megapixel

Anyone here know how to do that ??

I'm not a camera buff, but I believe the tech is correct. The amount of Megapixels your camera can take pictures at has no direct correlation to the resolution. That being said, there is a relation between the MP and Resolution of a picture. The higher the MP the higher the resolution can be naturally...but again, I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Another thing you might have to consider is the 1.3 MP might be "interpolated". I have a logitech webcam that offers 1.3 MP but the max resolution is still 640x480

Hmm, I always thought what Carlos thinks... Megapizels are the resolution....Um, what else would they be? And Carlos is right, you multiply length by width to come up with a shorter way to represent resolution, example:
you can write 600x800
but who the hell wants to write that? exactly, no one!
So we right it as 0.5MP
600 times 800 is roughly 500,000 = .5MP

Well I'm not a geek on the camera stuff, but at least I'm smart enought to know that if a camera is 5 megapixels it can handle a resolution of 2592x1944 , 2560x1920, etc.. it just depends on the brand of the camera what will be the maximium resolution.. So in this case what I'm watching is that it's fraud by HP advertising a 1.3 megapixels when it's only a fu%^g... 310,000 pixels camera the same as the Acer aspire 5050 with the only difference that the Acer's cam is rotable...
640x480 = 307,200 pixels Acer advertise that is a 310,000 webcamera and HP is saying is a 1.3 megapixels .

I wish I'm wrong saying this is fraud.. and if somebody here know how to take pictures at 1280x960 I really will appreciate that info.

Cheers

Yes I would like to know also. I understand having low video resolution as most cameras have lower vid resolution and higher pic resolution.

I never noticed this so I am interested now.
