G4 PowerPC 1.33 GHz Hard Drive suggestions

Hi there,

One of my laptops is a G4 PowerPC 1.33 MHz with a TOSHIBA MK6025GAS internal hard disk.
The Toshiba drive recently stopped working (SMART status failing), so I have to replace it.
I don't want to replace it with the same MK6025GAS model, though, since it's only 60gb and I find it rather noisy and unreliable.
Do you have any suggestions for hard drives?
I guess not all hard drives are compatible with this G4 model either, I read somewhere that 120gb drives are not compatible with these G4 laptops. Which ones can I still install in this laptop?

cheers

Offhand, you should be able to put a 120 in there. the limit prior to the subsequently mentioned driver is 128GB, so u'd be fine with 120 without the following driver. If for some reason it doesn't get fully recognized, Apple has a large disk patch you could apply. it's called hi-cap or something of the like.

the market is pretty full right now with 5400rpm competiitors. check the reviews for performance rates, if that's really important to you. the most relevent issue to you it seems is noise (but not to the detriment of reasonable performance, i bet), so peruse the reviews for such details (anandtech, tomshardware, storagereview, barefeats). i usually check out zipzoomfly and newegg for prices. newegg tends to have more comprehensive information about their products, but when i find something i'm interested in i check prices at other outlets.

it's funny. newegg's mantra of "once u know, u newegg", and how they say compusa, bestbuy, etc are their showrooms. their product info has gotten so comprehensive, i do the same with them! i get the reviews/reliability info from them and then shop around! usually newegg is at the top of the heap however for price, but again zipzoomfly beats them on occasion and has 2nd day air as part of all their prices.

afaik, the 1.33 iBook/Powerbook were still using ATA/IDE drives.
