New 5680 BIOS (possibly) - Page 2

(Adam || Tom || Laura ), can this be verified as official? Can we get the official word on what all the BIOS update does? I'm currently not experiencing any artifacts or anything, so I don't think I need this BIOS.

I'm guessing the "T3" bit has something to do with the fact that it's probably not a final, but instead a [T]esting version.

But I can guarantee you that I did get it directly from Sager.

is there a way to make the fans work harder and longer? it's almost as if the fans should just keep running and not turn on/off... thus building up heat. (while gaming anyways)

of course desktops are different for obviuos reasons... but i never lock or even lose FPS on my desktop which is very very well ventilated.

this is making me re-think the whole gaming on a laptop mentality.

They already run constantly while gaming.

they need to run harder then... cause i'm overheating when i game.

The 3-second freezes sound more related to something accessing the hard drive other than the game, than overheating. Overheating results in total freezes requiring a reboot, game crashes to desktop, bluescreens, and/or heavy artifacting.

Do you have a firewall and/or virus scanner on when you're gaming? Or file sharing software? These are likely sources of unwanted disk access. Disable them while gaming.

i know what your thinking.... this kids a meathead... but all those bases are covered trust me. i just downloaded an app to help me watch the temps while i game. i'm not alone with these issues either.

That's not what I'm thinking, but:

1) Without knowing the in-spec operating range for the Radeon Mobility 9600 Pro Turbo, watching the temperature is meaningless, because you don't know whether you're exceeding the tested and acceptable temperature range for the GPU,

and

2) You say you're not alone, but you're the only one I see here complaining about 3-second hiccoughs during gameplay. The rest of us tend to game as well, and we're not having that problem. I'm not saying your problem's illusory, but it's certainly not common.

no, i'm imagining things

that's what it must be

If you think sarcasm's going to persuade anyone to help you, you're quite mistaken. I'm through with you. I suggest you change your attitude when asking other people for help.

I had the 3 second pausing as well when I first got my 5680. Turns out it was a monitoring program called Cool Mon that was making it pause (whenever it did a cpu/mem poll). After disabling this most of my problems were solved. Reverting from the latest Omega drivers back to the regular latest Sager Betas also seemed to improve my ghosting somewhat. Just some ideas... Disabling the touchpad I hear can also improve things. Good luck though!

scolded by a sr unix admin who works for seti, just what my day needed. i'm kidding... i'm kidding!

and dont worry, i don't think that sarcasm is a tool to get others to help.

anyways, it may be a ut2004 issue as plenty are are complaining about a similar sounding issue (not sager users)

Thanks mcl

I just flashed to the 1.00.07 T3 that you posted, and all signs of artifacting are gone. I am now stable at Pro Turbo speeds! Woohoo! This BIOS defaults to 344.3MHz Core and 243.0 MHz Memory.

Urgent! Please Bios File!

Hello

I have a clevo D510P and i have the ATI problem, that frizes the screen.

Can you send me the Bios update that you disponibilize from a link that no longer exists?

please send to:

Nunoucp@netcabo.pt

Thanks! and sorry my english
the bios in this thread is not applicable to your machine. The sager 5680 is the d500p, not the d510p. It would be unwise to use a mismatched bios. You should contact Clevo.

Similar problem with World of Warcraft.

I am also experiencing problems while gaming with my 5680. Specifically, while playing World of Warcraft. I'm hesitant to change the clock settings of my video card using the RadLinker tool that comes with the Omega drivers.

Should I try out this version of the BIOS? I recently upgraded to version 10, but my frame rate and general performance is still poor. Frame rate often drops to 0 frames per 5-15 seconds.

P4 2.6Ghz w/ HT
512 RAM
Win XP Pro SP1
Have performed a series of simple maintenance (i.e. turning off processes, scandisk, defrag, spyware check with 3 seperate tools, virus scan, switching WoW to D3D from OpenGL, etc.).

Any help is appreciated since I'm back to cursing my once beloved notebook.

same problem

i have the same problem also and have exchanged over 20 emails with sager and it looks like the last step is going to be to send it in.from what i was told usually costs $80 us dollars for labor plus the cost of shipping to and from plus the cost of parts.im out of warranty so i might just sell the thing and build a gaming desktop with a 6800 ultra oc card.
