Recommend mouse/pointing device for P25-S509?

Hi people,

I have a P25-S509 and find the touch pad a little frustrating, as it doesn't seem to reach all the way across the screen unless I move super-fast. I changed the settings in control panel, but it still seems to not quite make the distance.

So I am looking for a nice pointing device which can be used on irregular surfaces (so not really a mouse as I'll have nowhere to put it) and can be used quickly. I want fast, precise movements. I have a program which is very mouse intensive, and requires moving from one end of the screen to the other repeatedly, and I want to do this as quickly as possible.

Also seems like it needs to be USB, as I just realised there is no ps2 port on the P25's ?

Any recommendations would be most appreciated.

I have a cheepo Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse that I attach to mine when I am trying to get anything done. If I was willing to spend some more money, I would probably go for a Logitech Trackman Wheel trackball. (Actually looking at the current price, I might just buy one, it was around $60, but now looks like it is around $30.00.)

The thing I am tempted by is one of those little things like a ring which fits on your finger and is controlled by the thumb? Trouble is,
I have tried a great many pointing devices in the past only to find them not very reliable or even useless. Some of the trackballs are frustrating if the balls aren't heavy enough, as they fall back a fraction when you let go, thus moving the pointer a little bit. Also, I've never found one which will go all the way across the screen in one go without resetting your hand position (if you see what I mean).

On my PC I am using a Cirque Easycat, which I find invaluaqble, but i am only running at 1024x768 so it can cover the whole screen in one movement.

I wonder why they took away our little nipple? I actually rather liked it. Very frustrating how the extra wide screen is too wide for the touchpad.

Anyone ever used one of these?

Try the new-er Logitech Cordless optical laptop mouse. It has a small USB receiver (looks like a USB flash drive) and then the mouse itself.

I've been using one and it works great, it will work on just about any surface (or no surface, I've used it on my couch, holding it above the fabric and it still works fine...

Has a separate switch to turn th emouse off for extended no-use times... and so far the battery life seems good.

For $40, you can't beat it.

Thanks Meatpimp. Wow, works on a couch. I'll have to go and check it out.
