Plastic Scribe? What can I use to open up the m1210?

I need to replace the keyboard on the m1210, and I look in the manual and see that it calls for a plastic scribe. I'm not sure what that is, nor do I think that I have one. But what everyday household items can I use in place of this plastic scribe that wont damage the plastic and paint?

Thanks

If you're careful a Flat bladed screwdriver will work. Dell says plastic scribe (which is really just a plastic stick with a flat end and a pencil-like end.) because that will certainly NOT put scratches or marks in your Laptop. You can use a flathead screwdriver but you need to be extra careful not to mar anything up. If Dell is sending you a keyboard, the new keyboard should have a Screwdriver and plastic scribe in the box.

Use the end of a pen cap if you cannot find anything else. I personally used a flathead screwdriver because it doesnt take much to pry it open. Goodluck

I've always used a flathead screwdriver but, I put a piece of cloth over the end of the tip so as to not scratch the paint on the system when I slide it under the panel.

The keyboard didn't come with anything except the keyboard. I've also noticed that the keyboard looks sealed. So water COULD be poured onto the m1210 keyboard without damaging internal components.

I used a guitar pick, it was so effective that I think they should rewrite the manual to include it!

There are two part numbers for keyboards, one is JUST the keyboard, and the other is a customer install kit. Looks like they sent you just the keyboard and they always send me the customer install kits. The customer kits always have the scribe, a screwdriver and instructions.

I used a plastic toothpick (cut the point off) or you could use the cap off a Bic. Just make sure it's plastic or wood to avoid scratching the paint.

I wrapped a flat head screwdriver with a bit of tape, and that kept it from scratching anything and popped it right off without any problems!

Sorry since this a little off topic, but does anyone know the specific name of the plastic part connecting the keys to the keyboard? Its a white, flimsy piece.

I use the hook on the strap on my motorola phone... It has like a metal piece, that says M for motorola, with a hook on it... it works well.

That's not a seperate part, only way to get another is to salvage from another junk keyboard. Or buy a new keyboard. They aren't that expensive. I sell keyboards on eBay for $25 with free shipping (when I have keyboards to sell that is) What model system do you have and I might be able to help out.
