Ibm R40

Thread Starter
So I'm thinking about purchasing an IBM R series laptop. I'll post the link below with the model that I'm thinking about.

IBM R Series - Value for $1,215

I'll be adding Microsoft Office and 256MB RAM upgrade. I'd like to end up spending around $1500 for the laptop and at least the Microsoft Office. As far as what I'll be doing with the laptop: assignments for school, general Internet (WiFi, messaging, stock research), and some occasional web site design. I don't play any games. I really want something that will last me for three years or so and not give me a lot of problems. The 14.1in screen is bigger than my current size of 13.3, but it's still small and in a compact form. Is this a good deal for the money or would I be better off waiting and seeing what else comes out?

Thanks

Well i won't comment on the deal, that is up to you, i can tell you i work on an r40 as my work machine.. different specs.. but i will say this

ibm machiens are solid and their support is FANTASTIC.

IMHO you can't go wrong with an IBM laptop. You can probably get a comprable machine for a bit less, but imho the peace of mind of owning an ibm for the limited amount more you will spend, it's a good choice.

For not gaming its pretty good. Sort of slow, but if your just doing basic stuff it should be fine. If you want to play any games newer than C&CRA or the original half life though, this is not really for you.
