MacBook Performance

I've posted a couple of times already so please excuse another topic from me.
I just got back from Apple, didn't purchase anything, and did some looking. I played with the MacBook Pro 2.33ghz and the Macbook (black). The MacBook Pro didn't really impress me that much. So I looked at the Macbook and liked the keyboard. Couple of question to you Macbook owners.

How is the performance with Photoshop CS 2? Just photo editing no video.
How does it perform with WOW with the new 2.0 patch that includes the OpenGL multi-thread?
How hot does it get?
How does it perform with Parallels?

I know that I would get better performance from a Macbook pro but thats a lot of money. I'm replacing my Thinkpad T43 Centinro 2ghz, 1gig RAM, 100gig HDD, ATI x300 Video card 64mb.

I didnt mean I wasn't impressed in a bad way. Don't get me wrong the Macbook is a very sexy machine. I just think with me owning one previously, the MBP Core Duo and experiencing the heat and poor performance, I'm very skeptical about owning one again. But I read some forums etc about how the Core 2 Duo resolved the heat issue they were having. And that performane is good with the MBP. I'm just making sure I don't kill my wallet again.

I love my Dell XPS M1710 but the thing is too large for me to have in my laptop while I watch a football game or want to go downstairs to do some graphics.

photoshop cs 2 is not universal binary, however cs 3 is wait till cs 3 to get photoshop for mac.

u could try the cs3 beta if u like. results so far on intel equipment put it on par w/ cs2 running native on PPC hardware.

CS3 on Intel is blowing away CS2 and CS3 on PPC. It's even faster than CS3 on Windows by most accounts I've seen.

PPC vs. intel, but no windows comparison.

post 'em if u've got 'em. if we get enough reviews we'll sticky it.

so does CS3 actually run faster on mac? and the macbook can run it properly- I read somewhere that it can have trouble with some graphics programs
but then again that may have been talking about the serious programs...

youll be fine with a mb, itll do whatever u need it to do.

it gets hot, just like ANY other laptop with a c2d in it. theres just only so much one fan, and minimal space can do

uncomfortably hot? no, but noticable. enough to cook your nuts and berries (if u get me )

The only thing a MacBook can't do is intense 3d. Anything involving 2d like video and photoshopping will be quite fast.

RAM, RAM, RAM, that made the biggest difference on my macbook, i had to go for the 2gb, compared to my mac mini with simliar specs (i tossed a merom in there a while back) which only has 1gb of ram, it makes a tremendous difference, that and i loaded activity monitor and double checked all my apps to see what was PPC and what was intel, and i ran out and found intel alternatives when possible, such as firefox, i prefer to run a identical but specifically intel based version i loaded cs3 works without a hitch, alot better now that it is native when i was doing alot of quick restorations for a aniversary dvd for my grandparents, it was hard to load 50-60 images at a time with cs2 alotta freezing, with cs3 works like a charm. wow works flawless, personally i had to go into system preferences and assign a permenant ip for my mac, then go to the router and set up port forwarding to that ip, so when the blizzard downloader was going it wasn't crippled by the router. there is a difference between that and my x1600 ati and the built in intel graphics not so much as far as character models or even textures its more atmospheric effects and the distance that can be seen in each, but i use my mac book for typing, surfing email, and for important information i can't afford to loose, while i use my acer for stricktly for gaming and torrents. one game i would suggest for ur macbook Plasma Pong.... breathtaking

The graphics on the MacBook are not reliant on the processor. True, there are some aspects that the graphics chip can't do internally and relies on the software for but none of those features are required for anything. The big thing is that the graphics chip relies on the system RAM for all of it's memory use being as it has no RAM of it's own. When both the graphics and the system rely on the same RAM more RAM is needed to even things out.

1) I use CS3, and it loads in approx 5 seconds (sometimes less) and I haven't seen any type of slow down at all
2) I don't play WoW so.. i'm not sure about that. I noticed for other OpenGL based games (Enemy Territory), I noticed a large slow down in OS X vs the Windows counterpart.
3) Not really? Depends on if you're going to put the CPU into 100% all the time, if thats the case then it'll get very warm (Not hot)
4) Parallels runs insanely fast from what I've used. I haven't tested the new 3.0 with OpenGL/DirectX capabilities yet.
