HP System Recovery

Thread Starter
Hey everyone. I was trying to do a system recovery on my parent's laptop. It's an HP Pavilion zv6000 series running xp. It didn't come with cds (please don't tell me that's not possible, a lot of new laptops don't come with them) I've looked online and the only thing I can find online is F10 on startup but it didn't load the recovery options. Anyone know what I can do? I found it a long time ago but I can't remember how. ????

Well on my DV2000 series, you must press F11 several times, but that will work only if you still have the restore partiton..

Startup your laptop normally. Then go Start > My computer, and check is there is a drive (or partition) called "HP_RECOVERY" or something along those lines...if there is not, then you may be out of luck. You could always format then buy Windows XP on CD, but since Vista is so close...

You didn't burn a set of recovery CDs, did you? HP/Compaq do not supply recovery disks, instead they ask you to burn your own.

Look carefully when you startup...when it boots it usually says on one of the boot screens which button to press to get to System Recovery.

Of course, you are right that your parent's notebook did not come with recovery disk(s), and this is quite common now days. Although folks like to complain about this, keep in mind that it holds the costs down a bit.

Not "preaching", but one should IMMEDIATELY create a recovery disc set after initial notebook set up!

However, as long as your parents did not reformat the recovery partition, you should still be in business.

Unless I am mistaken, you should be hitting F11, not F10, which is the bios entry key, in order to access recovery options.

You can always order a set of recovery discs from HP, by the way, although you do have to pay a shipping/handling fee.
