Replacing LCD Screen on Area 51 7700

Has anyone here personally replaced their LCD screen and if so what is the difficulty level? Are there any links or step by step guide to doing this on the 7700?

Thanks

it's very easy to do
i didn't replace it
but i replace the LCD inverter on tho bottom of the LCD pannel

why do you need to replace your LCD?

Like omagian said, it may just be the inverter. It's cheaper and easier to replace than the screen if that's your issue...

LCD screen has developed a single thin verticle light green line extending from top to bottom of screen approx 3" in from the right edge of the screen.
Plugged 7700 into an external LCD monitor and the line was not present. This I believe would rule out the graphics card.
Either a bad LCD or LCD cable.

yep you are correct
if you need instructions of how to replace the LCD i can help

That could be the inverter, you should really change the inverter out before purchasing a lcd.

EDIT: I am almost positive it is the inverter, the lcd wont really go bad if it has not been physically damaged. The inverter is what sends the data to the lcd, that is most likley your issue.

I thought the inverter powered the backlight? I do not have a dark screen, just one single green line from the top to the bottom of the screen.

when you see vertical lines in your monitor wheather its blue or green or red its your LCD nothing else. A good test is like they mention above is to use an external monitor if you can still see the same line in the external monitor then its a video card issue but if you dont then its a LCD issue and it needs to be replaced.

Hi, That was my post about using an external monitor and my green line did not show up. I was convinced it was the LCD screen or LCD cable and my initial post starting this thread was looking for guidance in replacing the screen. I'm glad you agree it's the screen but I would have prefered just swapping out the graphics card.

Thanks

well its not the cable of the LCD trust me. Changing the LCD is pretty simple the panel around the LCD pop up easily when you take off the screw under the cover, then you will see the rest of the screw around the lcd and on the side of the LCD after those are taking off the LCD comes off easily. Trust me its not very hard. Nothing else should come off not even the inverter board. Good luck

theres only one thing you need to be very very carefull when replacing an LCD, well actually a couple of things, try to get some gloves, maybe those white ones doctors use, like savage said, once you remove the panel, theres a total of 4 or 6 screws not complete sure on teh sides of the LCD.

once you have the LCD out, be carefull not to touch teh back of the new LCD, usually complete white, if this part gets scratch or dirty you may notice it once the LCD is working. and when removing the LCD cable from the LCD be carefull to pull it from both sides at the same time this conector is very easilly broken and getting the cable is not easy.

let us know if you need any other assistance
